Number one is just a perceptual thing sounding harmonic because we grew up perceiving one kind of chord as harmonic (good) and others as disharmonic (bad). There have been studies where people showed harmonic and disharmonic tunes to some tribes not usually exposed to western music and they actually had no prefference for one or another

If you are just starting out experimenting with harmony can be a learning experience. How else will you learn what blends and what doesn’t? We as musicians have to learn to open our minds to different things. Some of the oddest sounds work together if you have the ears to hear it. Telling people not to do things is not really teaching it’s creatively restrictive. Showing people harmony and it’s dynamics is teaching. Can you imagine the world where all the music sounded the same because they learned from a singular source that harmony only works if it fits in the realm of some ancient music theory ideology?

LOVED THIS! Thank you so much and PLEASE share the additional 20 things! Right on! I understand why you’re not letting people hear it until it’s finished- don’t let people attempt to steer your boat! It’s your music! I’ve been subscribed for what seems like a long time...I enjoy your channel very much. Greetings from Florida!

Hey Jon - nice Vid as always! Question: I'm in the process of building my own Studio at home - do you think its impossible to build it in a room with 210cm ceiling hight (other dimensions: 625x425). It's a room in the basement of my house. greets

I would love to see videos with you coming up with music ideas and developing them into songs.

Some really standard tips but however they are really helpful and reminds me I didn’t put the toms in the right tune yet in my latest production 😂😂

Hi Jon! Could you make a video about how you make chords around vocals!

Sorry for my English...

Me personally, Just rid of the resonating frequencies by doing 3 step of equation.
1. Equing each element or pattern separately.
2. Then equing on the total layers puting on one channel. Like all bases route in one channel the equing.
3. And in the last just eque the entire song in a channel and then that channel route in the master channel so everything is clean to fix if any issues occure..

Hey man, I watched one of your older videos today, and I noticed that you played a clip from a track, and then you added the licensing information in the description. I want to do trance Dj sets and put them up on youtube. Do you know what the rules are regarding the copyright?

How can you discover the key of a kick and snare or tom?

Hi Jon, maybe you should do a tutorial on eliminating those resonating frequencies, i understand the process on how to eliminate them, but it's hard for me to recognize the ones to eliminate

Nice video. Side note: if someone has the sub lows in stereo, it also takes a lot of headroom in the mix (this is due to 6 dB increase of low end in stereo)

thanks for inviting us into your process, it's illuminating if not enlightening.

oh soothe..? it's pronounced like smooth without the m - the e is silent you can just ignore it. possibly you know that already since it's been almost 2 years that this post has been up.

Should my bass and sub bass always be in mono, I'm confused?

You can also use a DeEsser for the high frequencies that do not sound good. Pretty solid tips!
