8-year-old drives herself to Target

That is seriously impressive. Not only to drive a car at 8 years old but to navigate 10-11 miles to the Target! I walked several miles to school and the nearest 7-11 when I was that age but I couldn't dream of driving my way that far to a specific location. As a parent I'd be both upset and impressed with my child!

One of my kids is like that, and did that. She never walked, she started marching with determination at 9 months of age, potty trained herself and her first sentence, at 9 months of age, was screaming "Bug Off!" to her sister. I was startled, thrilled that she said her first 2 word sentence, scared to death that we had a very long road ahead, and we did indeed have a very long road. That's why I don't judge parents.

Wow. I'm almost 26 and never learned how to drive (I'm autistic, and the thought of driving terrifies me). And this 8yo drove herself all the way to Target? Man, I'm inadequate! I'm glad she's safe, but I hope she doesn't try this again until she's of actual driving age.

While this is concerning, that kid is hilarious. Would have loved to see an interview with her. Glad she’s ok and no one was hurt. Hope everything is alright at home, sometimes it’s not a good sign when kids are forced to grow up too fast.

My cousin used to do things like this, my aunt told me they had to lock him in his room as at 5 am he was out driving his trike. He was 5. He was a quiet kid but never hesitated to walk into city buildings and right up to people to ask what they did.

I'm willing to bet the family taught her to drive. Maybe she had some lessons in that sameTarget parking lot when they were closed.

How did she know the way? Who has $400 dollars lying around that a child can get? How did she see over the steering wheel, reach the floor pedals! All sounds very strange!! 😮
