Most people claiming that Java certifications are a waste of time are just trying their best to mask their insecurity about incompetence. Hence, they hide behind their 'years of programming experience' to hide the fact that they cannot pass the exam.

I can't agree with you, there are always some standards. If you don't know all the concepts you may not know what is the ideal way of writing particular function. After preparing for exam there are many changes i brought in my coding style. And also i am able to write error free and bug free code even without going for security scans 😎

In AWS cloud certificate also not based upon practical stuff they have theory only .. 😅

If you go with the Oracle certification and not third party certificates, they are useful in quickly adding to your pay.

When I started as a junior dev I, did two certificates which more than doubled my pay in under a year.

Depending on the size of the company you work for the person setting your pay will have minimal knowledge of you and having certificates really helps in negotiations.

And the theoretical knowledge gained will not hurt your programing.

You passed the java 6 certification which was very old and honestly is obsolete nowadays, if you compare it to what we have now its much complex and harder, try the OCP 17 and see if it's boring lol

That's why i always prefer your content when i have to go thru things.For real knowledge i prefer books or some other author who have deep knowledge.

These cloud certification seems to be pure business, first of all they are costly and have a limited validity after 2-3 years you need to appear again, if I have already paid the amount it's just the matter I need to give it again without paying hefty amount.

This is just my opinion but even with a good resume I’m having a hard time finding jobs without any sort of certs (I’m still working on my degree) may be useful for people just trying to get into the field

There's nothing more boring than preparing for the Java certification. You need to learn the book almost by heart and remember a ton of details and it makes your brain a compiler. Nothing valuable... I passed the OCA exam for Java 8 and enjoyed. I've started studying for for the OCP exam and it gives me nightmares. I'm not sure I'm gonna make it till the end.
