In this video, we show you how to perform a valve cover gasket job on a 2000 Lexus LX 470 with the 4.7L 2UZ-FE Engine. This engine can be found in a lot of other vehicles including: Toyota Sequoias, Toyota Tundras, Toyota 4th Gen 4Runners, Toyota 100 Series Land Cruisers and Lexus GX 470s so this video will help you perform a valve cover gasket job on these models as well. This 2UZ-FE engine is Pre - VVTi (Variable Valve Timing). With the introduction of VVTi in 2005 came the secondary air injection system so you might find some differences with the parts on top of the engine you have to disconnect to get the job done.

*Ko-ken 3/8" Nut Grip Sockets (Use Discount Code "sicmods" for a 10% discount) (These sockets are great because they hold onto the nut or bolt you're trying to remove or install. This socket design is especially helpful in tight areas where the chance of dropping the fastener is high.)

*5/8” Magnetic Swivel Spark Plug Sockets w/ Extension Set (In case you decide to replace your spark plugs as part of this job)

*Magnetic Pick-up Tool Set (4 Piece)

I’ve also seen folks who can’t get to the back bolts go in through the left side wheel well. Thanks, Timmy!

I have Suzuki Grand Vitara (J20A) and Toyota Noah Hybrid (right-hand drive) in my garage. Toyota is as much reliable as I expected. Very good car for everyday use (I have two kids), so my wife is driving it.
Suzuki is pretty old and not so reliable, and actually spare parts are a little bit expensive.
I like to watch your channel for useful tips (applicable to service any car) and neatness of your work!
I plan to get GX470 instead of SGV, so relevance of your channel will be multiplied for me.
Thanks for your videos Timmy and have a good day!

Pro tip. If you have a leak, you could try tightening your bolts a little and sometimes that will buy you some time. Thanks for the video. I have a first GEN tundra and may need this sometime in the future although it’s 24 years old and doesn’t leak a drop of oil. Obviously religiously maintained.

Great video! I did notice some dried coolant on the T connector on the rear side of engine.

Great and timely video. I've been wanting to get this done but I've seen horror stories of breaking valve cover bolts when removing them. Supposedly the exposed underside of some of those bolts get crusty. Looks like this rig had no issues whatsoever. Was this a concern at all to you as you were browsing the other vids or prepping for this job?

Installing the spark plug seals you could put something thin where u want those gaps to be(for example bent feeler
gauge) and that would stop u pushing those seals too far. Later u just pull feeler gauge out. Just an idea

Also is it good idea to use some lubricant when installing spar plug coils? Like dielectric grease so it would be easy to remove next time? Of course sparingly only.

The original coil or Denso is excellent in terms of quality. The rest are mostly junk. As for replacing it, if one of them is damaged, replacing it may be a logical option. However, if it is intact, there is no need for it. It is preferable to replace the injectors instead. 2:59

A million miles is hard on an engine without major overhauls, maybe 800, 000 to a million miles, not a likely mile. It will start burning oil after 600-800, 000 miles, even if you put 20/50 and were conservative.
