Biblical scholar and Holy Land pilgrimage leader Steve Ray delves into the Jewish roots of the papacy, namely “the keys”, “the rock”, and “the chair”. Ray, a former Baptist, draws from his trips to the Holy Land to bring to life the commissioning of Peter as the first pope using vivid historical and contextual highlights.

About the Deep in History Talks from the CHNetwork:

Why should we go deep in history? As generations before us have learned, history is the laboratory for thinking about the issues that matter most to us as human beings. By placing ourselves back into another time, we are able to look at our own time with more objectivity; we see its strengths and weaknesses. For Christians, there is the additional truth that ours is a historical faith. Christianity is rooted in the historical facts of Jesus's life. The Church which is his body has lived, grown, and matured in space and time. The surest way to know Jesus and his Church is through the study of history, both biblical and post-biblical.

We hope these resources take you deep into the history of Christ's Church and thereby deeper into Christ. Please visit:

The Coming Home Network International was established to help inquiring clergy as well as laity of other traditions to return home and then to be at home in the Catholic Church.

No Way, its been a long time I heard someone explain my faith like this. Big Bro, you are just too amazing. The Holy Spirit is undoubtedly with you. I felt tears flow down when you explained the concept of the ship, captain, crew and rafts etc etc. Thanks

I just came home at the Easter Vigil via profession of faith, first communion, and confirmation.. I was a Lutheran and now I'm Roman Catholic!  I'm on here learning apologetics to teach my family.  I like Steve Ray and also like Patrick Madrid.

Mr. Ray, I hope to express my gratitude for this apostolate.  I became a Christian in a fundamentalist Baptist denomination who later became a conservative, evangelical Protestant of varying stripes (OPC, PCA, RE, CRCNA).  One of the most instrumental resources that God used to enable me to eventually "swim the Tiber" was your personal conversion story, "Crossing the Tiber" and "Upon This Rock".  I pray for you, your family, the apostolate, and its public witness.  Numbers 6: 24-26

All we, Catholics, have to do is to have an open mind and open heart to really get to the bottom of our faith, study its history, truthfulness and beauty, and the depth of its doctrine and we will be alright. We won't have to transfer from one faith to another. .. The fullness of truth is in the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church....

I thought Staples and Madrid were good.... no one could beat Steve Ray at a debate. He's got the weapons of truth and the ability to use them.

HALLELUJAH ! I am never listening to Protestant sermons again because they lead the faithful further into the abyss. It is a vast wilderness out there and we as Catholics should never think the grass is greener on the other side, no matter how eloquent and tempting it sounds and looks. Praise God forever! I am never jumping ship. We need more Steve Rays to guide the faithful as we enter very testing times. Our Bishops, Cardinals and Priests need to do more for the salvation of souls. Holy Priests are a rarity and the faithful are being led by wolves in sheeps clothing. See Theodore Shoebat's video blog when he bravely confronted and exposed a gay supporting priest who was caught kissing boys. Bravo Shoebat !
