Just a quick clarification: I purposefully excluded all bonus cards, Secret Lair Commander Precon Cards, and Secret Lair Promos and stuck just to cards that were in base Secret Lairs. In addition I only looked at cards since the start of 2024 to encapsulate the “last year or so.”

I hate the new way they’re doing secret lairs, was it kind of annoying to have to wait so long to get the secret lair that I ordered? Yeah a little, but I would rather actually be able to buy it and not have everything sell out while I’m asleep and literally not able to buy them

The secret lair is the art that Astarion deserves

Its usually just from sellers buying secret lairs and refusing to sell anything at a loss so the cards hold a silly price that is usually not justified. There are copies of cards that are highly sought after based on popularity and excellent new artwork

I was so annoyed about the astarion and karlach secret lairs, I added foul versions of both to my kart and by the time I was through the queue the karlach one was sold out, which meant I couldn’t buy anything in my kart, so I queued again with the non-foil karlach one and by the time I had made it through that one had ALSO sold out

Sisay as Princess Buttercup is like 40$ for my foil of it. A regular copy is just a cheap bulk rare. It tends to work that way for desirable, unique printings of cards.

The problem with these prices is that you will have a harder time finding a buyer because they are more niche.

You cant convince me that WOTC dont keep track of and manipulate the secondary market. Holding much needed reprints back to drive prices up, but then printing cheaper cards in "special" versions to drive those prices up.

Before you say "But, its optional, there are normal versions!", its also optional for WOTC to print a full art Kaalia as it does for a regular bordered Kaalia seeing as they cost the same to produce. "Secret lair" has just given WOTC a platform to raise the prices through artificial scarcity.
