Are we in Oldschool Runescape's Great Depression? [OSRS]

Today I am going to be looking back through 4 years of data. Are we experiencing one of the longest market depressions? Or is this just more regular market fluctuations. Over the last 2 weeks there was another big market fall off on a few common items.

On top of that I will be having a look at some of the biggest price changes caused by recent updates. For example we have received a new blog on upcoming wilderness changes. On top of that we had a big new piece of content "A Kingdom Divided" As always I will be looking at anything else interesting that affected the osrs economy this month.

It's not a depression. Its an artificial market with dwindling demand and growing supply.

I feel like you completely missed the point with this video. Go back and look at the trading volumes. These PvM gear items are crashing in value because they are being traded 50x to 100x more than usual. The market is being flooded, & supply >> demand. See the graph at 2:42 for example, the tbow drop directly coincides with the spike in trading volume. This is due to rampant over-farming since the revenant caves were removed and gold farmers spread into other PvM content.

Main reason the DHCB went up was its buff. It was pretty trash when it first came out. Then she sky rocketed to 130

It's not just the economy.. It's also the player count crashing hard. I'm not sure if jagex got rid of bots (under the table) and didn't announce, but when mobile dropped, we hit around 160K at the highest point. Now, at peak time no matter a weekday or a weekend, highest is around 70-80k. I haven't seen OSRS hit over 100k since they first announced a blowpipe nerf.

COVID last year led to more memberships and item increases, now everything's opening back up people aren't playing as much, hence the fall.

Expect rises in the later part of the year, more towards Christmas.

havnt played in a few years, logged in to see my bank that was around the 450 - 500m range is now like 230m thats crashed harder than my crpto and thats saying something haha.

I'm not sure the DHCB example was entirely accurate since the period where it was worth barely anything was before a direct buff to the item itself not other content in the game.

Great series idea for anyone who wants it "alching old-school" most high level players agree one of the best things for the osrs economy would be an item sink introducing my account item sink an alching only main account this account will alch any high value items it can get its hands on with the ultimate goal of being able to alch a tbow. Basically just try to alch stuff for a profit eventually buy and alch a tbow
