Robotic body parts are too expensive for those in need

Golden Dawn’s MEP, Lampros Fountoulis, made an intervention in the European Parliament’s Employment Committee, during the discussion concerning civil law in robotics. He recognized the fact that robotics are part of our life but he also asked for protection of jobs lost due to replacement of human workers with robots and also the re-training of the workers so they will be able to find a job in others sectors. Finally, speaking about robotic applications in the replacement of amputated body parts, he asked for action so to be affordable for everyone.
Following is the full text of the intervention:
It is a fact that robotics are now a part of our life. But concerning our discussion today, I discern two distinct categories. In the first category, for example, robotics used in industry raises production, lowers the cost but also lowers the jobs available to workers. In car industry e.g. we can see huge robots assembling and painting cars. This has reduced job demand in general but also has led to the creation of some new specialized positions for robot programmers, whose role is to program these robots for every move they are making. On the other hand, robots have also contributed in protecting workers from dangerous and non-healthy jobs like working with presses, paintings and heavy metals.
In the second category, robotics concerning replacing amputated body parts for restoring proper functioning and also to increase their re-admission into the economic society are a very important field. Of course the cost for those kind of body parts is too high for most of the people that they have such kind of amputations and they are in need of help.
But, there have to implement civil rules so to find a proper balance in using robotics in the job market and all these will be judged according to the results
