YOU WILL NEED...
Strong Cardboard
Scissors
Wool Brown Chunky Wool
Red Card
Glue Dots
Brown Felt
Mini Pom Poms
White Chunky Wool
Orange card
Black Card
HOW TO…
REINDEER
1. Print out the templates and cut each of them out.
2. Place rectangle template onto cardboard - trace around it and cut it out. Don’t forget to cut out the smaller rectangle too! This is your pom pom maker.
3. Take the antler templates and place on the brown felt. Using a marker trace around it and cut out and keep to one side for later.
4. Cut a length of wool approx 30cm and hang in the gap of the pom pom maker (this will be used to tie around the wool at the end).
5. Start wrapping the brown wool around the width of the cardboard, keeping it to one half of the pom pom maker. You will need to wrap the wool around the pom pom maker 30 times if you are using chunky wool, 40 times if you are using lighter wool.
6. Take the 30cm of wool (the two pieces that are hanging loose) and tie them around the wool very tightly with a few knots. (if you don’t your pom pom will fall apart!!)
7. Slide the scissors under the wool along the two outer sides and cut. Be very careful when using the scissors! Then slip the pom pom off the cardboard.
8. Cup the pom pom in your hands like a snowball to create ball shape.
9. With a scissors, trim any spare pieces of wool. (Do not over trim as you will have no pom pom left if so!)
10. Rub a dry sponge over your pom pom to fluff it up
11. Stick glue dots onto your antlers and stick on to your pom pom.
12. For a nose, stick a glue dot onto a mini pom pom and put onto your reindeer.
SNOWMAN
1. Same process to make pom pom, this time using white wool.
2. Cut out a hat and nose from felt or card and stick on
CRAFTY CHRISTMAS TIPS
• Buy the chunkiest wool you can get, it will be quicker to work with and give you a fluffier pom pom
• Before trimming the pom pom rub it on a carpet or clean sponge to loosen the strands and make it fluffy.
• Get an adult to help with cutting the wool before removing the pom pom it, can be tricky.
• You can also make pom poms with a fork or two toilet roll tubes.
