Hall effect sensors are used a lot in VCR's for controling the speed of the capstan and tape runnung/counter control.

I'm so glad you have your car back on the road.

There were plenty of reasonably-fast embedded CPUs in 2001, Dan. For example, the PIC18 series clocks at 48MHz, and it has been around for a goodly number of years, and was used in a lot of embedded applications, including automotive.

Has me wondering about printing "robustification shells" for existing laptops -- specifically for folks like you who might want to take their lappy with them on a vehicle servicing call, etc.
