The Simple Electronics Podcast - 035 - Another Maker Christmas Episode

Welcome to the last Simple Electronics Podcast of the year! Another Maker and I look back on 2021 and talk about our highs and our lows, as well as do some youtubing stuff. We also make bold predictions about 2022 and we try and anticipate where the maker movement is headed. On top of all that, we challenge each other to complete a task in 2022 - or risk having to "suffer the consequences!"

Thanks so much for having me on! I do want to clarify what I was saying about the Facebook group.

What made my group "special" beyond its size was that it was a heavily curated group. We turned down over half the requests to join and half the post requests for quality reasons. We averaged 80k unique users a month and 45k per day. You could go there and find curated, quality posts. With Facebook's mucking, groups are no longer places where people gather, the content just gets mixed in with the rest of the feed. FB took away the "community" feel it had. Regarding the value, I would never consider selling it, but I put ridiculous amounts of time building the community and keeping it clean and relevant. I did it for free, but at the time it felt like I was building something that had real value. I still love the group and donate my time to work on it every day, but it's just not the same and that's sad.
