Tyler Oakley, Ariel Winter Respond to Nash Grier's Homophobic Vine

Vine star Nash Grier recently sent out a pretty hateful video, and other stars are now responding to the since-deleted Vine. The teenager -- who boasts 8.7 million followers on the popular app -- sent out a video that featured a short clip of a PSA with people say that HIV testing is not a "gay thing" to which Nash replied: "Yes it is," and hurled a gay slur which we are choosing not to repeat.
Though the Vine has been deleted, it caught the attention of YouTuber Tyler Oakley who had this to say:
"Promoting a false stereotype that HIV only affects gays to his millions of teen fans is extremely dangerous. Call me and people like me 'fag' all you want, but spreading false information about deadly diseases is next level."
Modern Family's Ariel Winter also sent out a tweet expressing her disappointment that read:
"What I'm reading in the media lately makes me truly disgusted. @Nashgrier is what's wrong with this generation. That video was truly awful. Unfortunately, my generation will forgive @Nashgrier because he seems "cute" or "funny" (not to me). Ignorance is really all he displays."
Nash has since apologized, sending out this message:
"I apologize for anything negative I've said towards gays and for that matter anyone. I was young, ignorant, stupid, and in a bad place. I've moved on and learned from my mistakes and am truly sorry to anyone I have offended. I have nothing against anyone or anything that promotes equality. Sorry again."

His apology seems so flawed and clichéd. It seems like a 'Omg.... my fame... my money.... don't

How old was he when he tweeted that? People are acting like he was 9 or something "oh he was young" I'm 12 and I know not to make homophobic comments/use homophobic slurs. It's not complicated.

he WAS young, stupid, in a bad place? That vine was like a couple days ago and unless he's changed in a matter of days I doubt he means it. If you look way back at Nash's twitter you can see a lot more homophobic tweets, and if he's still feeling this way today, I don't think he's gonna change.

To everyone saying that he's young and makes mistakes:

I'm 13 years old and i would never say anything like what he said. What he said was horrible and 18 years old is when you start becoming a proper adult. I've only just reached my teen stage and i wouldn't dream of being homophobic. Yeah of course he apologised so everyone thinks it's fine, but its not. He said what he thought at the time and when everyone kicked off he thought "oh shit okay i need to say sorry so that i don't lose money."

OH and before you all tell me i'm only 13 so i don't know anything, i do know things, i'm not stupid and i'm not fooled by nash's so called 'cuteness.' I can see obviously that he is an ignorant person who needs to think about what he's saying.

"He was young" How long ago was that vine then?!

Being young isn't an excuse anymore, not whenever you're going to degrade people and spread false information to over 8 million people who follow you. There's no way he couldn't have seen the effect this would've had. Don't you dare say 'He's young, everybody makes mistakes.' It's not a mistake if it's repeated. Also, I'm fourteen, and even I'd know to never post things like that anywhere, whether I'm for gay rights or not.

He was young? That was less than a year ago....
He was in a bad place? Yes millions of teen girls swooning over him, a loving family and all the wealth he could ever need must be SO fucking hard on someone.

He's not sorry, he will still believe homosexuality is wrong and a bunch of ignorant teenage girls who are ran on their sexual desire thinking this is okay only gives him more power.

That's no excuse for posting such a messed up Vine. The only reason he 'apologized' was that so his millions of prepubescent fans would still worship him.

Okay, for real: who is he and why is he relevant?

He's right, he was young, but by how much? You get older every second. It did sound like he was sorry that he posted it and had backlash, not that he said it. I think the rest was PR saying it. I'm glad I never liked him in the first place.

I agree with Airel, this is exactly what is wrong with our generation. And i dont think we should be so quick to forgive him just because he tweeted out an apology big whoop. Ignorance and hate should not be something to promote as a "joke".

Reminds me of the video he made with a couple friend about how girls are suposed to look like and how to act. I just think he is a spoiled arrogant kid and that the fame has gone to his head.

honestly my problem with nash isn't even the fact he doesn't support LGBT, because people are allowed to have their own opinions, and if he's chosen not to support equality then fine. there are tons of people who think exactly like him. it's not them i have a problem with. it's the people who put their thoughts into words, especially if the words are in some way hurtful towards others. expressing your homophobic opinions is bad, especially in this case. do i need to remind you that nash has MILLIONS of fans and most of them are young girls? yes, it's ridiculous and i don't understand it either, but it's true. these fans look up to nash as a "role model" and as an "idol". and what to they learn from him? nothing good that's for sure. they learn that it's okay to be rude, racist, homophobic, ignorant and misogynist, and also that it's totally acceptable to post literally anything on the internet. it's not. bullying isn't okay and neither is insulting others. nash has insulted lots of people with his ignorant words SEVERAL TIMES. also him apologizing solves absolutely nothing at all - it just shows his fans that it's okay to say hurtful things as long as you apologize for them later on. newsflash: it's not. stop defending dumb white viner boys for their actions. sure, everyone makes mistakes, but if you've done the same "mistake" several times, it's not a mistake anymore - it's pure ignorance.
