A Spanish expedition in 1769 looks to find vast gold reserves and take ownership of the land. This is in conflict with the missionaries goals to establish converts and grow a network of Catholic missions.

What a fantastically intricate and detailed set, with great subject matter and actors. Yet, it seemed lacking in cohesiveness. I can't help but think that with slight changes, and probably a different director, it could have been an absolute masterpiece.
