Christina Aguilera and Sabrina Carpenter know what girls want, and the girls want a duet!
Christina Aguilera celebrated the 25th anniversary of her self-titled debut album at the Spotify Music Studios in Los Angeles this week and took the opportunity to collaborate with Sabrina Carpenter. During the “Live Spotify Anniversaries” episode, Aguilera brought Carpenter out to perform her hit “What a Girl Wants,” with Carpenter opening the song before they shared vocals. Carpenter explained that Aguilera was "the main reason that I started singing and wanted to become a singer."
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of her self-titled debut album, Christina Aguilera entered the Spotify Music Studios in Los Angeles, CA to reimagine the iconic album that shaped the early 2000s pop landscape. Christina’s intention with rerecording & performing these select tracks was to pay homage to the music in a way that honors the girl she was 25 years ago while remaining authentic to the woman she is today.
This Live Spotify Anniversaries episode introduces new versions of beloved tracks, featuring musical guests Sabrina Carpenter, duetting on What A Girl Wants, and mgk shredding a guitar solo for Genie In A Bottle. Christina is also reunited with Producer Ron Fair & Songwriter Heather Holley from the original album's recording. Christina & Ron reminisce on her earliest days as an Artist, and Heather joins Christina for the performance of “Obvious,” a ballad they wrote together over 25 years ago.
"What a Girl Wants" is a song recorded by American singer Christina Aguilera for her self-titled debut album (1999). The song was originally recorded by French singer Ophélie Winter in 1998 for her album Privacy, released a year before Aguilera's album. Written by Shelly Peiken and Guy Roche, the song was completed and pitched to RCA Records executive Ron Fair as "What a Girl Needs"; it was renamed "What a Girl Wants" and given to Aguilera. Though a songwriter along with Peiken and Roche, Winter was never credited as such for the song. A re-recorded version of "What a Girl Wants" was released as the album's second single on September 4, 1999, by RCA Records, following the commercial success of the album's lead single "Genie in a Bottle". A Spanish version of the song, titled "Una Mujer", was included on Aguilera's second studio album Mi Reflejo (2000).
