Shared System Tutorials | Part 17 | Generative Patching

One of the many fun parts of the Shared System is creating a generative patch that plays by itself and remains interesting for a longer time. It's pretty easy to create abstract soundscapes, but with a few tweaks you can also create ambient soundscapes that can haunt, nag and enchant you. You may be familiar with the legendary Krell patch that was originally created for the 1958 sci-fi movie 'Forbidden Planet' ans was recreated by Todd Barton on the Buchla and eventually by MakeNoise on a Shared and a 0-coast. It's a cool patch to extend into something of your own! So we'll revisit the Shared version of the patch and extend it into something I personally like a lot. I hope it inspires you to do the same!

I LOVE the touch of Rene states spelling out Cinematic. That's the cherry on top of some beautiful sound creation.

Love the end result patch in this one! Similar ideas to how I usually work generative stuff on the system but as usual, lots of new ideas and inspirations 👍

I sold mine the other day.
Yet to ship cause the check didn’t clear my acct get but I’m afraid to even open the case.
I love the synth so much but over the last 2 years I’ve prob only gotten use it it 6 times.
I may build a west coast 3u of non make noise modules that I can do the same sort of patches I did on the Ss.

Btw.. love this patch. This is the sort of stuff I did on mine. Make sure to send smooth random to the speed in of the WB.. I’m sure it’s coming up in the patch.. I’m half way in.
Starting with a Krell patch is the best jumping off points for some insane generative stuff. And a great learning experience as well to learn about modulating function generators and clocking rnd voltage in weird ways.

Ever try the Aleph patch?
Another one of Todd Barton’s patch inventions.
I have the patch notes somewhere. He sent them to me.. he was using the DUDG an I ported over to MATHS.
It’s a very interesting patch.
