A tribute to Late Pasca & Rex band.
I came to know Rex band with their heat song Sengugefo back in late 1980s while a student at George Brown HS in North Coast Road (NCR) of Rabaul ENB. It was in the year 1989.
But prior to that, I was a family to the Rex band back then in early 1980's while a student at Gagidu Primary school, Finshaffen, MP. It was in 1982 that the band plays around the Gagidu station from my 7 year old mind recollections.
Surprisingly, the band original n founder is Elizah Baim from Boana or Wain, MP who was employed with Development Bank (Agriculture Bank) then. He was responsible for mentoring late Caspar, late Donga Avini & Bongas. Elizah was a former base guitarist n original band members of Guria Band in Lae. Therefore when he arrived in Gagidu he naturally brings his live band experiences to small seaside town call Gagidu station. During that time the band was originally known as, Wrecks band. Which plays in Elizah's house at White point near District Office or @ Nick's House (Samarai guy). Rex or wrecks band was a heat at Gagidu station most times plays at FVC or Finshaffen Vocational Center hall. That used to be the dancing hub or Cosmo version (Pom) of Gagidu. Also during Independence day the band used to light up the Gagidu soccer field. We used to have kids from Police barracks, Butawen(Brown hospital), Logaveng, DCA, Dregahaffen HS n Residents of Gagidu station, the whole place is littered with Rex band beats n songs.Rex band brings all the good old memories of Gagidu during 1980's. Late Don & Caspar were very close to me. I remember Don use to ride his bicycle coz of his disability as the bicycle was his legs to carry him around where ever he goes. I am saying this is bcoz when ever I follow the band to FVC Hall n falls asleep then late Don was his responsibility to give me a ride on his bicycle @ 1am to white point (house). Late Pasca n Bongas house is at the back of Gagidu Primary school. While late Don is next to them but besides the Gagidu Bridge.Truly memories do slowly walks with us where ever we go. Rest in peace Pasca. Thinking of you now @ Malolo Estate, Pom City.2024! 😢
