Great reaction guys. Guy Sebastian came in 5th of all the European countries. Australia started broadcasting and covering the Eurovision Song Cost back in the 1980's with the advent of SBS TV our multicultural broadcaster. Continual interest from Australia lead to an invitation for Australia to participate and we keep going back for more. There have been American interval acts in the past but otherwise the USA doers not participate. ABBA launched with their win in the Eurovision Song Contest in the 1970's.

Don't have to, but Australia is a beloved supporter of Eurovision for years prior to competing. I'm just gonna enjoy it whilst it's still a thing 😊❤

Yes it was a special invite for Australia to join as we have such a diverse multicultural country. Each song has to be original and Guy wrote this in 30 hours. He also had a painful chest infection but to hear him sing this plus put in that little dance near the end ....well that's our Guy...lol Love your channel Susie and Travis and you support of our Aussie legends.

First rule of Eurovision to be allowed to participate is: the country's public broadcaster must be active member of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union). Australia has been participating since they were invited in 2015.

these big couches were the "green room" - where the performers can lounge after their performances and wait for the points to come in - it was leveled up behind the audience

The moment the penny dropped for you both that Australia was involved in Eurovision was hilarious 🤣

Australia is the only country outside of Europe that has been invited to compete. I think it's because Eurovision has a big following here. Eurovision's huge, last year it was watched by 162 million people. Guy wrote the song quickly, just before the entry deadline and Australia came 5th out of 37 countries. Seriously he should've won, but the voting system is a bit weird. Now you need to check out Dami Im at Eurovision, she's amazing too.❤

The thing to realise about Eurovision is that it is a song contest not a singing contest- obviously there’s a strong link between the two but the ultimate focus is the best song. Guy was the first to represent us and the reason we were invited back. If we ever won however we cannot host the competition here.

the tables are the green zone, where artists sit after singing

Eurovision is arguably more popular in Australia than it is in Europe, so we managed to wrangle an invite and have been killin' it ever since.

Don't feel bad.. We Aussies have no bloody idea how we scammed our way into Eurovision either...😅😂

Guy and his backup singers nailed it! The girl Carmen was booted from the voice Australia because at the time she had a solo line in guys song gold.. didn’t say featuring or anything. Watch gold

Eurovision?
Dami Im SHOULD have won.
Yes, that's her name, very much an Australian.
Incredible performance.
"Sound Of Silence". It's astonishing.
Kate Miller-Heidke pulled off the greatest performance in history in the Eurovision Grand Final.
"Zero Gravity". You'll kick yourself forever if you don't watch it.
That particular performance is rivalled only by the Sydney 2000 opening ceremony song, "Heroes Live Forever", Vanessa Amarosi, aged 18 with THREE BILLION PEOPLE watching. One hundred and eleventeen octaves and a note that lasted forever.

Next Aussie Eurovision song suggestion is Dami I’m with Sound of Silence……

Autralia was invited to compete because the criteria for entering is not being a European country, but being a member of the European Broadcasting Commission, which Australian TV channel SBS is, as they play independent European countries news services and programs for the benefit of immigrants from those countries. As such other non European countries such as Isreal and Morrocco do/have competed. Australia's most succesful entry was Dami Im (Sound of Silence), who came second but trounced everyone with the jury vote, and the song itself won the writers the best song award, its a must watch, as are Australias next most succesful entries after Guy .. Kate Miller Heidke and Voyager.

Eurovision involves countries involved in the European economic zone. This is how Australia has wangled its way in!

Join the European Broadcasting Union and US can apply to participate. This year was terrible though. It's gone all woke and political.
