If you purchased the Fly More Combo, then you got the ND 16/64/256 Filter Set. In this video, I explain how filters work, how to install them and some shooting options with them. If you want to get some natural looking motion blur in your video, filters are a must. Also, if you want to do some long exposure photography, the ND 256 is a good choice to start with.

I didn't know mine came with filters till you mentioned it, I had to unzip the top of the bag from the inside lmao, thank you!

* NOTE: in order to get the right exposure, multiple strengths of ND Filters may be needed. This is why DJI sells another set of filters. If you want to be prepared for changes in light, you will need multiple strengths of ND Filters. I have links to the two filters packs below.

This guy really does an amazing job of making these tutorials.... no nonsense, full range explanations without any fluff. DJI should pay him & leave the entire tutorial design sector up to him. Lol. Fantastic job. Thankyou!!

I never would've guessed motion blur was actually desirable.

This was probably the best explanation of motion blur I have seen in a long time. Very informative as always! Keep the MA2 video's coming!

Hi there I recently bought the mavic air 2. I'm only new to drones and not experienced in photography at all. As a novice do I need to learn all of this stuff about filters, do I need to worry about changing filters. It's all gone a bit over my head even though your vid was really good. Thanks for the content. I have literally just unboxed it so I guess I'll learn as I go.

Instead of trial and error. Take a reading of your primary subject watching your ev# or histogram. Note the shutter speed then count how many “stops” it will take to bring the exposure down to your 180 rule. ie. you want to shoot at 4K 30fps so your shutter speed should be 1/60th - you take a reading and find with no filter the correct settings should be ISO 100 ss 1/500. You need to bring your shutter speed down 3 stops to 1/60 so you have to use an ND8.

Each stop increases or decreases exposure by 50%

ND4 = -2 stops
ND8 = -3 stops
ND16 = -4 stops
ND32 = -5 stops
And so on....
In shutter speeds the stops are as follows (sample)... 1/500 1/250 1/125 1/60 1/30 1/15 1/8 and on

Nearly had a heart attack trying to swap out the nd filters! The clip adapter was incredibly stiff from the factory, so much so I thought I was going to destroy the gimbal, thankfully it eventually released & seems to have loosened up after using it a few times.

High-quality video. the explanation is found very insightful, even for someone like me who has no experience whatsoever on videography and photography. So, new subscriber. I am now developing the interest and attention to this because I want to learn how to shoot and edit properly and your channel seems to be the right path. That is why I sold my spark because I want an upgrade, and the magic air 2 seems to be the one. Unfourtanetly I don't have the money yet, and the fly more combo is really hard to justify especially here in Australia. I thought to get the basic package with 10% discount plus an additional battery making the purchase a bit attractive. BUT, I do not know whether I might regret not getting the FMC (I don't care about the bag and the other stuff apart from the batteries of course, that is why a second one is enough for me, and not sure about the ND Filters yet), so are the ND filters really worthy given my situation and would they impact at first in my experience?, if so, should I get the ones provided in the FMC or others with different strength? I appreciate your thoughts...and keep it up.

They could make it easier like seriously I’m scared to break the gimbal 😑

Good video. So basically the ND 16 is seemingly good enough for bright situations at 1/120 shutter speed according to you.
The other 2 strengths are for stills then I reckon.

Great video for filters--though it is worth mentioning if one is really watching conditions and even with the MA2's fixed 2.8, one's understanding of current lighting conditions and picking relative filter per the conditions will save you hundreds of dollars over a variable aperture camera. Knowning photographic conditions will just give one an overall boost anyways when shooting high quality video and/or photos. As long as the MA2 is compensating via shutter speed to match ambient lighting conditions too fixed aperture, even with 2.8 one can nail a shot. The only camera i know of that shoots more wide open would be the Evo 2 and then you go way higher on pricepoint. Que sera sera.

Thank you for a great introduction to the ND filters for Air 2. For shutter speeds of 50 or 60 (when filming 24fps or 30fps) would you recommend the ND16 on a normal sunny day or would you prefer a 32? I’m a little curious on the 4/8/32 pack, whether it’s worth getting or not...

I took my Air 2 up for the first flight last night. I was going to throw the ND 16 on real quick, but I struggled to get it on there. So I'm glad you made this video. I had no idea about twisting off the ring. Thanks, You Rock.

Could I get your opinion on video settings? Shooting 4k at 24fps MOV, with shutter at 1/50. Shot in D-Cinelike with an H.265 Codec and had ISO at 100 and 200 for different shots. It was a bright day outside, so I added the ND 64 filter so I can adjust the shutter as needed. Histogram was evened out perfectly, however when I looked at the footage in post, I saw tons of grain in the shot. Also tried shooting with an ND 16 filter and ISO at 100. Not sure why I can get cleaner shots.
