ESE Lightning Arrester VS Conventional Arrester - Differences in Functions & Applications Explained

In this video, we have explained the clear difference between the ESE Lightning Arrester and Conventional Lightning Arrester by understanding their working.

Why are Lightning Arresters used?
To protect structures and electrical systems from Lightning Strikes, Lightning Arresters are mandatory. These Lightning Arresters defend the power system by forwarding high voltage surges to the ground.

They provide a low impedance path when the travelling wave of lightning reaches a certain level and gets grounded without affecting the structure.

ESE Lightning Arrester:
The key purpose of using the ESE Lightning Arrester is to become the fast conductive point of discharge for the lightning bolt & ground current safely. Hence instead of hitting random objects or the structure of the facility, the lightning bolt will conduct through the ESE lightning arrester and the high voltage spike will get grounded safely.

Conventional Lightning Arrester:
The Conventional Lightning Arrester consists of Franklin Rods. Their effectiveness is decided based on their position, morphology, materials used, and physical reaction that is performed due to the electrostatic field during the lightning.

Thank you for a very informative vlog on lightning arresters.
I would choose Franklin's Rod with double ground conductor for earthing.

Hi, i watched the video but no explanation how it works... before the strikes occur yes, there is a huge potential between ground and clouds but what charges the capacitors? Another power for it inside? Or just magically appears those charges??? Let's assume we collect it somehow, how to set trigger time for discharge the capacitors? Does it happen before the strike hit the rod? At the same time? After it? I'd like to install these ESE rods on my animal yard but its seems not clear explanations 😕

How does the ESE lightning arrester always store the opposite charge of the lightning and not the same as the clouds

Can the galvanized pole to mount this Axis ESE provide the ground path or does a certain size copper wire be needed?

What is inside the ESE Lightening arrester? If it is some electronic component, then won't it be damaged during lightning?. If the parts inside the ESE Lightening arrester is damaged by lightning, then it would act only as a conventional rod . Then it is no use on spending that much money, i can simply go for multiple conventional rods.I have read about failure of ESE Lightening arrester and caused damages to properties. Please explain.

A more appropriate video for me now as I'm looking for installing a solar panel in my roof. I would like to understand if I should go for a franklin rod or ESE arrester.

I have a roof area of 13 ft x 19 ft and I'm initially planning to install a 1Kw (2x 535W panels). Eventually over next 3 - 4 years, I plan on increasing it to 4 Kw. (535*8 panels)

My overall space around my building till compound is 4 feet at the back of the roof and 2 feet / 3 feet on either side. Would it be ok to have a earthing done in the 4ft space such that it wouldn't damage the building or the panels?

Please share your inputs.

Can you suggest suitable lightning arrester for farm resort, approximate area 300 mtrs X 100 mtrs.
Wherein there is no tall structure except water storage tank tower located roughly at the centre (length wise) and at the edge width wise ie 100mtrs. Thank you.

Western North America receives millions of lightning strikes annually igniting thousands of fires. British Columbia has 300 fires burning. We have lost a few cities and the cost is billions annually. They desperately need your ESE lightning arrester!
