Losing, to many, is painful; it’s an experience of degradation, a diminishment of the ego. So, can’t we just put ourselves in circumstances where we always win? Or even better: is it possible to win in all circumstances? According to Epictetus, it is. If we adopt the right mindset and attitude, we always win, even when we lose. This video reflects and elaborates on Epictetus' philosophy and why, if you want to lose, you always win.

Quite often, we find that our fear of a thing is worse than the thing itself.

When I lived as a Buddhist monk this was such a common approach people had to their practice.
If they won they got to have some pleasant experience.
But if they lost they'd get an unpleasant experience.

The ironic thing is that as far as progression goes, both are wins, but the unpleasant meditation sittings are usually the ones that gets you the most progress :)

Losing or failing should not be feared.Failing to attempt the challenge for the fear of loss or failure, is the ultimate
failure!

I actively combine Stoicism, Taoism and Confucianism with Islamic principles and it's truly marvellous. I feel like I'm reaching a point of total peace, love of humanity and truly becoming the best version of myself in every way ♥

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my YouTube channel 9 months ago about self development. Now I have 1, 480 subs and > 1, 000 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

I used to be such a sore loser in competition that I became a spoil-sport, therefore, no one wanted to play with me, and so I never had any fun (nor did others in my presence). Once I began to embrace this stoic philosophy fully, I not only became able to lose with grace, I also became able to truly celebrate my opponents victories with them, now, fun is the game of the day, every day ;)

As a former competitive swimmer, I had many chances to set myself up for disappointment, luckily, my coach had a different approach to winning, time and adversaries. He used to say none of us were against any of that, but only our mind and body. It was about doing your very best considering your own state that day.

As a former touring musician, this fear of not getting applause is so real. My best performances were when I didn't care or got into a fight with a band member. Crazy how not caring about external factors actually brings success

This was an eye opener . I always thought it's completely my fault or lack of skill when I do not win. Now I understand it's a combination of skill, practice, luck and other factors. Now I know why participation is more important than winning or losing.
and Success is not in winning a competition. Thank you so much🙏

Girls-night-out happened to be bowling, in which I have no experience. I chose to go in with the attitude of, I'm going to OWN last place! I was freed up to just have fun. There were so many opportunities for humor. I think I did come in last but we all had so much fun that night. SO much laughter! We had a much more memorable night than if we'd been seriously competing with each other. That would have been the real loss.

Essentially take part and enjoy yourself no matter the outcome - enjoy the race and congratulate the winner.

When you don’t have any expectations, then the smallest things are enough to make you happy. A beautiful ray of sun, a kind stranger, an encounter with a dog.
When I got my first job I was struggling with imposter syndrom so bad that when I each shift ended I felt a relief, not a sense of accomplishment. I was always anticipating the worst. So when my clients would post 5* reviews mentioning my name, it was so surprising it always made me feel grateful. And this feeling of gratitude was rewarded by my boas raising the salary. Everyday I was going to work ready to lose, but in fact I was winning😮

As someone who has lost at life generally, this makes me feel better.
