I was joking when I said can't wait for a lightweight mod for this mouse. That 40% reduction is insane--good job!

At this point just put a sensor and buttons and call it a mouse

I've actually done lighter WITH scroll wheel. I did it with a dremel (took out the wheel until it was just the 4 spokes, thinned even those, drilled out the "tread" area to the max), then for the PCB drilled out every non electrical trace, and even the electrical traces I cut and filed until they were like cobwebs. Then used a business card cut 6mm wide for the mouse buttons, and a few strips glued to the bottom (slick side down) so it had the slick pads. So light weight it stuck to my hands like a piece of paper, which was good because there really wasn't anywhere to grip unless you grabbed the sensor itself. Before someone thinks I wasted 4 hours of my life and a good mouse, just note it took longer than that, and it was a cheap $1 mouse and it entertained me for a full afternoon.

I'm thinking about taking even THAT design to the extreme, designing my own PCB with cobweb traces and machining out the outside, then like before using the PCB as the "bottom" of the mouse (hollow sliders for sensor offset), a new mousewheel manufacturing technique I didn't have at the time (that took hours ok, it was insane, I had also thinned its internal circumference until it was paper thin as well). So I could actually mass manufacture them reasonably cheap, cheaper than this one, and publish the shell open source so people can modify it to their hand or try anything they want. I just want to do this for fun though, as an engineer we go a little whacky if we don't design a new product for a little while...

i was thinking alot about mouse weight reduction lately. i may try a few ideas, such as replacing the pcb by silicon wires or cheap headphone wires

This video was satisfying and painful to watch at the same time lol.

I need to remind myself that there is always something to improve... even those with the highest end possible setting.
In this case... I'd have harder time flicking through air than with these mouse.

you can further reduce weight by drilling holes on everything that's left

Awsome to watch for science but just to much break down for me. You should try with just the pcb and put something on the switches to the are easier to press.
