In-depth video on new partial rep research:

The popularity of partial reps have been getting some traction lately, forgoing the more commonly recommended training ideology of using the full range of motion (full ROM) of your exercises to elicit the greater muscle growth and strength. But what exactly has changed in recent times to make partial ROM reps a rising contender, especially with so much previous research showcasing otherwise?

Well, in turns out that the debate now hinges on the more nuance approach to partial reps, specifically on which part of the range of motion you're actually performing partials. Now with research starting to narrow the scope on the potentially more effective "long-length" partial reps, we might start seeing a big shift in the meta of resistance training and lifting weights.

I think a mix of both is best, starting with full ROM and then partials until failure

If you want to dive in this more, give Jeff neppard new training program a try. He does full ROM with exercises ending with a set of partials.

I really love it 💯

I have started using partial rep integrated sets in hypertrophic exercises and seen some better results.

Does that mean if you only train in partial range, you’ll be stronger in that range and weaker in the rest? I feel like partials would be better as complementary like a finisher to your sets

Pigmie did a partial only challenge and his "full rom was affected" and had to adjust back slowly

Just use partial reps as a burner to finish your sets.

I just tried partials for the first time this week and I’ve never had better pumps in my life!
I do full ROM for the first set then switch to partials and love it!

I’ve been adding partials for a while on certain lifts. Instead of only doing partials or full ROM I’ll do everything other rep. So the first rep is full ROM second rep is a partial. I do that till I can’t do any more rom and get as many partials as I can

Have you thought about doing a video on cold and flu and how to return to working out after it?

also very interestingly mr jeff nippard just did a study resulting in a case FOR the full range of motion
but again I'm quite sure it's all about the negative time under tension

Partials are good to add to a workout, only doing partials won't do much as far as strength gains though, its just another accessory to add

This is for hypertrophy, correct? Is there a recommendation for strength?

Using bicep preacher curl as an example, if you dont use full rom for a while your bicep can kinda tighten up. Meaning if you suddenly go full rom you can very easily stretch your bicep harder than it is used to and you can pull it right off the bone. Long way of saying, dont get set into one way of doing things. Maintain a balance between extra gains and functionality /longevity.

I don't have strong feelings either way about PF with facial movement. If he keeps it, , I'm cool, if he goes back to the old still face, I won't be devastated.

For me, partials are great because there is no rest in them, not even 1 second. Whereas in full reps, you always get some time at each rep

If eccentric is the most important then lowering from the highest position would be the best, not halfway.
