EFI Is Here To Stay! Carbureted Man In A Fuel Injected World - Never Give Up!

Where we left it last I was having a few problems with our Holley Snipers on the 55 Chevy Nomad. Banging out the exhaust, cutting ignition, hard starting ect.

Now I will admit, there where a few things I missed but overall I had the unit hooked up properly. I couldn't believe what the issue ended up being....

I found it funny that you were disturbed by noise from your neighbors

Truer words never spoken. I have done 3 of these systems. My advice to people looking at these: 1. use an in tank fuel pump with return set up. Slow down and make sure your wiring is perfect. If you have an option for EFI shielded ignition wire - use it. 3. Plan to do some tuning on the computer. If not comfortable, then find someone to do it and PAY them. These systems are “universal” which means they universally perfectly fit nothing! It takes some work to make them right. Oh, and obviously, read the directions!

I laughed so much at Danny being irritated by a neighbor hammering! LOL!!!! The guy that starts SBC's with side pipes at 11 PM. Awesome dude.

That’s why your channel is great, you don’t build a car in 20 minutes and say all done. You show real life car building frustration we all go through. Great job and keep on wrenching!

It takes patience and observation. I patiently watch Dan do it wrong and then I patiently observe Dan figure it all out. 😅 I learn a lot from Dan! 😁👍

It's the rims, the nomad wants daisies on it, it won't run right until that happens.😁 or maybe some sparkle paint?

I junked my Holley Sniper Fuel Injection to many issues components failing ., my IRD Racing blow thru carb works better, makes power better no 1200hp limit , I can tune it with a screwdriver, my right foot, and my two afr gauges. Sorry carbs are better no sensors . Old men rule. 😎LoL

I can’t say which company I’m associated with but I have done thousands, yes thousand’s of these style efi kits. Dual quads always seem to be difficult at best! Also if found that if u can’t make it run great with a carb you will never make it run halfway decent with the efi. Tony is right, you may be better off with a couple of carbs with how soon power tour is and how new this is for you. You can give the efi hell when you are back

I've dealt with several LS swaps and tuning, and EFI converted old school engines. The principals are the same, and as you said electrical connections are paramount in all versions of EFI. I did run into some issues with a "stack" type EFI system installed on a SBC though. It used the EZ-EFI (version 1) from FAST. And while I don't think there was anything inherently wrong with that system, it struggled majorly with that 8 stack injection arrangement. And I think you may be having a similar problem. The problem is with the amount of airflow change from a small amount of TPS movement. In my case it was 8 very large (1 5/8" each I believe) butterflies. The slightest amount of throttle cracking meant a huge change in airflow. And with one O2 sensor giving the readings, it can't react quickly enough. The ECM relies on MAP and TPS information so that it can predict the amount of fuel needed, and the O2 to feedback on whether those changes were correct. When such a small amount of TPS movement can result in such a drastic change of airflow, the ECM has to guess and add the fuel in milliseconds. Vacuum (MAP) varies with load, but TPS does not necessarily. SO when you're "blipping the throttle" during shifts or take offs, the ECM can't figure out what you're doing. Anyway, I think your best bet would be to change your linkage to a progressive arrangement. So that your higher vacuum (low load) driving will mean only 2 butterflies opening vs 8 (If its currently opening all 8 in linear operation). Just my $.02
