We dive into the mindset and motivation of the GOAT Michael Jordan.

0:00 Introduction:

Michael Jordan is widely considered to be the greatest NBA player of all time. Over 15 seasons with the Chicago Bulls he won 6 championships. His fame reached such heights that fans all over the world were coming to the US to see him play. He is even credited with popularizing basketball in the 80s and 90s.

Michael Jordan didn’t grow up different from a lot of other kids and especially not a lot of other athletes. He in fact didn’t even make his high school basketball team. What was different about him however was his mentality and his work ethic.

In this video I'm going to teach you the mentalities that made Michael Jordan into the hall of fame legend, he is today and how you can use those same mentalities in your everyday life to achieve just about anything. From being better at sports to mastering some skill these mentalities will allow you to reach new heights.

0:46 Love what you do:

The first thing that truly made Michael Jordan so great was his passion.
When you find your calling and are truly doing what you love you are able to focus much deeper than you would on any other task. Michael Jordan would spend hours watching game footage and practicing alone just to be on the court competing for a few minutes at a time.

Find a skill that you enjoy as much as Michael Jordan enjoyed basketball and you will inevitably become good at it. This is the first step in understanding Michael Jordan and being like him because it’s essential that whatever you are trying to be great at you actually enjoy.

2:07 Playing to win.

The first key mentality that made Micael Jordan so great was he always played to win. Now, what exactly do I mean by that?

Surely everyone plays to win when they are competing right? Not exactly. Most people play not-to-lose, they don’t play to win. The difference between playing not to lose and playing to win is the level of risk you take and your goals. Michael Jordan is always pushing himself to win every single game, he loves winning, he’s obsessed with it. He always plays hard, isn't worried about burning out, and is never satisfied. He plays to win.

3:35 Work ethic eliminates fear:

Work ethic eliminates fear is a quote given by Michael Jordan in an interview. This speaks volumes about his mindset and how he uses that to practice harder. He is not afraid of losing and has complete confidence in his abilities He believes fear is attributed to not practicing enough. This mindset is genius because when Micael Jordan fails at something he attributes it to a lack of skill which pushes him to train even harder.

This greatly shows his confidence and is a perfect example of how he thinks. He was willing to stake his reputation on success. By Saying you are going to do something publicly you are putting pressure on yourself to actually accomplish it.

5:22 Teamwork:

While Michael Jordan was the most notable member of the Chicago bulls he couldn’t have won as many games as he did without his teammates.

The thing that made him such a great team player was his ability to accept his teammates for who they really were. For instance in 1994 his fellow teammate Scottie Pippen was having a long-standing disagreement with Chicago Bulls management over pay. This disagreement ultimately led to Scottie Pippen sitting out of several games which affected the team’s performance. Even though these actions may or may not have cost the Bulls a couple of victories Michael Jordan understood what he was going through.

After all, Scottie Pippen was ranked 6th in pay on the team and 122nd in the whole league despite easily being the second-best player.

Michael Jordan was even understanding of another teammate Dennis Rodman, who skipped practice to go gamble in vegas.

He was able to see what his teammates needed and put their needs before his own. Michael Jordan’s mentality of bringing others up so he and them both could succeed is one of the main reasons why the Chicago Bulls were as successful as they were. To replicate this on your own do as Michael Jordan did and give people what they need to be successful. When they are performing at their best and so are you, that's what makes greatness possible.

7:22 Live in the now:

Michael Jordan talks about how he is constantly learning from other players along the way and how as he gets older his understanding of the game improves.

He has an attitude of living in the moment and learning along the way. He doesn't think about what may or may not happen, he simply says we will deal with it when the time comes.

The Chicago Bulls 1997-1998 season was coined the last dance due to the fact that it was the last season Phill Jackson would coach and the team was scheduled for a rebuild. This basically meant that after 1998 it would be a completely new team.
