From a florist: don't be afraid to cut the stems a little longer. I know the dome shape is really easy and comfortable but play around with negative space and let each bloom shine!

Shout out to you for realizing you didn’t have any hobbies and set out to find one. That’s self reflection and being real with yourself and improving. Kudos to you

As someone who works in a flower shop, add lots of greenery, it supports the flowers and acts as negative space to make the flowers pop!

Tip: Spin the rose upside down to get a natural wide bloom

My SIL just got married a couple weeks ago in California. She was quoted $10, 000 for flowers at her wedding. She went to Trader Joe’s instead and bought $600 worth of flowers (she preordered them or something), and we all stuffed the bud vases, made our bridesmaid bouquets, made the groomsmens’ boutonnieres, and she made her bouquet. We had leftover flowers. A ton of leftover baby’s breath, which I braided into my daughter’s hair (she was the flower girl), and I think we used to decorate other areas of the venue.

I was a florist for ten years. It’s such a beautiful outlet! Just a tip, starting with greenery will prevent you from overstuffing your arrangement and give it a good base so the flowers don’t droop around the bottom. Also, you can always cut more off, but start with longer stems. The start and finished product is always a journey. Beautiful job, by the way!

Tip from a florist:
height is your friend! Your arrangement looks beautiful, and you knew of several tricks that many "ameteur" florists miss, which is great! And realistically, you can do whatever youd like with your arrangements, and you dont have to like what is traditionally "correct". I myself love abstract and unique designs! That being said, for this arrangement, you seemed to go a more classic angle, so id say either use a shorter vase if you want a short, dense, arrangement, or cut the flowers longer. According to traditional elements of floral design, the height of the arrangement on top should be around twice the height of the base its in. There are acceptions to this rule for sure, but i feel like that rule of thumb could benefit this particular arrangement. You did an awesome job, though. Just wanted to give you some pointers from someone with experience!

And this goes in, more comments- don’t pull the petals, blow in the center to open them as much as they want to be open. They’ll open when they’re ready.

Professional florist here! Beautiful and I learned from you, here’s the tips:
To save even more money and give dimension and texture add some greenery. Never use scotch tape, use waterproof floral tape. You can also use a sharper knife to get a better cut so the floral food and water go up the stem (the vein) better. For hydrangeas cut them in a “V” shape since their stem is so thick. They will drink better that way, you can also dip your hydrangea in alum powder to make it last longer. Play around with height and space unless you like it stuffed and mounded like that. Great video! 👍🏼

I’ve been a florist for nearly 30 years…good job but definitely agree with some other comments about using foliage as a base. Gives added volume, creates different textures and adds interest 😊

From a florist, don’t reflex the roses. It makes them die faster. I would say to just take the gross looking petals off, and let the rose open naturally.

She said she realized she didn't have any hobbies. I love the honesty.

You did that! 👏 I’m a former event florist, now flower grower and I only reflex the petals of flowers with my fingers for events because it shortens their shelf life. If you like how it looks, of course keep doing it. But your roses will last a little longer if you kept them open on their own.

From a non-florist perspective, I think your arrangement is beautiful. Thank you for the tips.
