The Carnahan & Sons operation spans approximately 4,200 acres in Indiana, where they produce corn, soybeans, and winter wheat. The family relies on a propane-powered grain dryer, which increases their operation’s efficiency and work capacity. The Carnahans also trust clean, American-made propane to power their forklift and heat their home and some of their buildings. They utilized from the Propane Farm Incentive Program in 2012 to upgrade to a larger propane-powered grain dryer — simply by completing an online application. The new grain dryer includes a feature that allows the monitoring of the dryer via smartphone, even while working in the field. Even though propane is a legacy energy source for farms, it continues to re-innovate and offer the efficiency and power that operations like this one demand.
