In this video we're showing you how to start 7 different edible tubers including the Potato, Oca, Mashua, Ullucus and Yacon from south America and the Apios and Jerusalem Artichoke or Sunchoke from north America. Some of them are frost sensitive and are best started indoors in a greenhouse before planting them out. Others are hardier but can benefit from being started early resulting in higher yields at the end of the growing season. Please let us know if you have any questions.

I enjoyed watching this. Thank you for your taking time to share your knowledge with us. You make me want to be a better gardener and spend more time at it. Something I really love. Peace be with you, as it already seems it is.

Awesome Martin, thank you 👍

💚! I’ll have to plant our some some oca, the yellow mashua from you and some yacons .
All indoors, got huge but attacked by spider mites ..
Ulluco in U.K. it’s still under assessment so DEFRA suggests to stay away from them 😁.

Wishing you guys a great season, hoping that everything goes back to normal soon 🙏💚!

Thanks for the video. Did you water those pots after putting the tubers in? Any advice on where to get mushroom compost in Ireland?

It is possible some North American plants may need more summer heat than tends to be available in maritime Western Europe (which is more like our Pacific Northwest) since we have a mostly Continental climate (pecans and [American, Asimina] pawpaws are like that), but (northern germplasm at least) Apios americana is definitely hardy to at least USDA zone 5. It is widely native to parts of the Northeast and Midwest USA with horribly long and cold winters.

All you need is Anchote, Chufa, Dazo from Africa
Wapato, Sweet Potato/Kumara, Arrowroot, Achira, Allouia/Leren, Anredera, Florida Betony from America
Sohplang, from India
Maybe even Silverweed, Bitterroot, Quamash or Lily.
