Kou keeps losing in the manga. He goes through so much to bring back the people he loves only to lose them all over again and sometimes loses even more than what he'd gained back. He tries so hard but is only met with more challenges. All he can do is support his senpai. Our best boy deserves better

I remember in the spinoff manga Afterschool Hanako-kun, there was a chapter where they played king where the players took turns to be the the king and got to give an order to any of the other players. When it was Kou's turn of being king, he tried to make Teru confess to Nene since that's what she wanted to do when she was king but screwed it accidentally, so he used his turn to try and make Nene happy.
This man deserves all the love in the world and more.

It's so sad how Kou gains a crush on Nene, realizes she doesn't like him and backs off but then he finds Mitsuba, immediately loves him or so it seems and then he dies again. Not only that but he learns Nene is going to die. Now he's stuck on Mitsuba all while Mitsuba repeatedly leaves him. He can't win with anything :(
