Psytrance storytelling with Pigments

🟢 Solid storytelling relies on repeating sequences to give the listener a rhythm and a familiar pattern to hold on to.
However, these sequences must contain surprising elements and variations from time to time to keep the listener interested ✅

▶️ One of the plugins I use to create those sequences is Pigments, it has what seems to be a simple 16 steps sequencer but it’s actually super powerful and perfect for the job.

🥇 At first I like to create a basic 16 steps sequence, then I lock most of the steps so I can apply randomisation on the unlocked ones.

🥈 I randomize the gate length, the play probability, the velocity if it’s used as a modulation source and the slide parameters and I set the internal randomizer to create a random value every bar (but you can set it to more than one bar).
I also modulate with the binary modulator the rate of the sequencer to make it jump between 1/16 and 1/8 values.

🥳That’s it, now Pigments will create what I like to call a looping full of surprises sequence.

I did this and to make it move a bit more I applied the envelope 2 to the filter cutoff and also a random S&H on the release of envelope 1, turned out amazing!

And to impress him, Vishnu took on his many-armed form and said "Now I am become bass, the destroyer of (dance) floors."

I used to do that with my Roland JP-8080 and my Atari ST computer back in the 90s.

Would be cool if the sequencer was a standalone vst it seems powerful

Story telling? With random inputs? Must be quite a story...
