GUE Fundamentals Equipment - How to setup tanks and regulators?

This video is about the most obvious GUE Fundamentals Equipment you gonna need for your GUE Fundamentals class with me (or most likely any other GUE Instructor) - the tanks and regulators. I explain which tanks are recommended to use, if you have to buy double tanks and what lengths are recommended for your hoses.

One thing I forgot to mention: Don't buy 300 bar tanks! They suck! ;)

Double 12:

Single 12:

The regulators I use:

I like these ones, too:

Hi Ben thank you so much for the content, your channel helped me find a gue instructor in Ontario Canada and just signed up for my fundamentals class👍. Also was great help for setting up all my gear and first set of doubles . Thank you 🙏🏻🇨🇦

I really like the way you explain everything in your movies. It's very clear. Maybe I will take a class one day.

Hey Ben, cracking job! With the twins you made no mention of having them 02 clean and filled with 32% - I’m having to do this ahead of my Fundy class this week.

Thank you for this video, Ben. I was curious on about your routing for the double valve, single tank. You rigged it like a single tank. Could you do a video of how to route hoses and positioning the first stage on the double valve, single tank? My logic would be that there wouldn't be room for the first stages facing each other, so maybe they would be facing down or away from each other? I would love to see a video on this. Btw, my first stages are like the ones you use on the double tank setuo with the 5th port.

Hey, Ben! Thank you for the video, just wanted to ask if you could please specify why you recomend using double outlet on a single 12L tank and why would you use two 1stages on a single tank anyway?

Hi DoktorBEN! First of all, thank you for this helpful video and, in general, for all the videos offered in your channel
I have a question about the double tanks. Are there and differences between convex bottom cylinders and flat bottom cylinders? Initially I think the flat bottom double could be more convenient for standing in the ground, but I've appreciated that most of the technical divers have convex bottom doubles.

I enjoy your videos! However, I am afraid I won't follow the recommandation of doing the GUE-F with single tank dual outlet. As a beginner, I chose to do the GUE-f in single tank because I don't have training for doubles yet and prefer to minimize the amount of new things to learn in one course. I also plan to own all my equipment except the tank and my impression is that a dual outlet is a rare specie to rent. In a near future, I'll progress to double tanks and I'll definitely use double first stages. When beginning diving, there's so many interdependencies between equipment, training requirements and instructors advices. Making good choices is far from obvious.

Looking into signing up for GUE Fundies class. Thank you for the info!

Great video! What are your thoughts using a manual spg and electronic transmitter? i like logging the data for gas consumption calculations, so I don’t have to log anything on my slate during my dive.

On your video, you show a single tank with a double regulator valve. I typically dive with a double configuration but I would like to find such a tank valve for when I travel and doubles are not available (ie Liveaboards) Can you suggest a valve and supplier ? Thx!!

hi ben, is it possible to do the class in a sidemount configuration?

Hello Ben,
I have a question about regulators and cant find the answer anywhere, (maybe it's just obvious or stupid...) :
Let say i want to train with twinset but my wallet is thin... so i m thinking of using 2 diffrent regulators. I have a nice one already: an aqualung legend that i would like to use as my main regulator (the one on my right) and for the other, i would buy a cheaper not balanced one like the mk2 with r195 (that is still a very solid regulator imho because it's "basic"). Would it still fit the GUE requirements ?
Im not interested in doing very deep dives or extreme stuffs for now but would like to aim for a tech pass anyway (because why not?).
Thanks for your answer.

Are Miflex hoses really lighter and smaller than a regular hose? I don't like them either but I would like to be as light as possible when traveling.

Hi Ben, ein Video über das auseinander bauen und wieder zusammen bauen einer D12 wäre cool.

I noticed your swivel styled first stages (I suppose Scubapro?) - I own a Atomic T3 that I got on a good deal. However, these are officially certified to only 50m of depth, which seems to be a bottleneck from an insurance point of view.
Would you rather go for a set of new and cheaper regulators (f.e. Apeks), which are potentially certified for deeper profiles - or just get a second Atomic T3 (which I love) to add to the setup?

shouldn't inflation hoses/connectors be interchangeable betwee dry suit and wing?

Hey man! Could you please explain the difference between concave and convex steel tanks? I mean, obviously the shape of the bottom is different, but what are the advantages/ disadvantages of each one? If I get one model for twinsets, can I use that for sidemount too?

Hi Ben, have you tried kinking a rubber/miflex/miflex-XT hose? I tried this and even pressurised, miflex are surprisingly easy to kink enough to stop airflow. Surprisingly, modern rubber hoses are also super flexible and are easy to kink (compared to the older stiffer rubber hoses). There is one situation where I think this may be relevant- in a non-swivel first stage with the long hose coming out at the bottom of the first stage- in OOA situation, if the recipient of the long hose pulls away hard, it really could be possible I think to kink the hose where it is coming out from the first stage. Would like to know what your thoughts are for this. Of course it is irrelevant with a turret/swivel style first stage.
