Allen Hinds AH1 Distortion Pedal Review - Bob Burt - GuitarBreakdown - Gear Review

Of course a lot of the Allen Hinds Tone comes from his fingers and the many years of just playing and becoming one with the guitar (yes ... very zen) :)

But the Gear ... from Pedals to Amps to Guitars and all things in between have a fair amount to do with dialing in the base structure for their Tone. It is true that any great Guitar Player ... be it ... Scott Henderson, Michael Landau, Steve Lukather, Guthrie Govan, Matt Schofield, Jimmy Herring, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck ... the list can go on forever ... will sound like themselves regardless what Gear they are playing thru. But ... they all choose to use Gear that gets an initial Tone that once they plug in and play their first note ... the Tone inspires them to be musical and creative.

That is where the AH1 Distortion Pedal by Bob Burt comes in for Allen Hinds. This Pedal is based off of a Pedal that Bob Burt has been building for a while now called the "GR8T Distortion". Bob had build some Custom Speaker Cabinets for Allen a while back and sent this "Great Distortion Pedal" to him to try out as well. Allen Liked it so much it became a mainstay on his Pedal Board. But after months of using it ... he had two requests for Bob ... He would like a smaller pedal size and only needed two of the 8 options for compression.

So after some months ... Bob Burt and Allen Hinds had created the "Allen Hinds Signature Pedal" called the AH1 Distortion Pedal.

This pedal is an extremely Dynamic Pedal ... as you would expect from any Pedal that Allen Hinds would allow to have his name attached to. In this world of so many Boutique Pedals ... all claiming to have that "Dumble" quality ... this Pedal truly does.

What most people mean by the "Dumble" quality ... is that it is very touch sensitive ... and tends to have a nice compression to it's Tonal Quality.

In this Pedal Review we will talk a little about how this Pedal came about ... Why we like it so much ... and of course we will play thru it a bit and let you hear some of the Tone we can get out of it.

This is a very inspiring Pedal and we hope in this video you can hear some of the great characteristics that we hear when we play thru this Pedal ... and what keeps up wanting to play thru it time and time again.

Great demo! I'm getting one of these AH-1 pedals. What version (gold, white, scott henderson) RC Booster are you using in this demo? What model is your Maxon delay? What were your delay settings for this demo. Greatly appreciate it :)

Yes, all those years ago, they didn't know how to pan the camera down for us to see the pedal or settings but I think they have improved here in 2021

I just got this pedal from Bob Burt. It is amazing. I play it through a Morgan PR12 and DAG 15 via a Lehle Little Dual.

What happen to Allen and Xotic?  One minute he is all about Xotic pedals, then it seems like he cut ties with them completely and you don't see any on his pedalboards.  Nor his, should I say, trusty old Xotic guitar.  Just curious!!  Awesome video!!
