For those using water stones, it's worth mentioning maybe only sharpening on the pull stroke. Pushing forward and dig into your water stone really easy 👍

I used to use chisels as lathe tools. That small chisel, with a skew sharpened blade, AWESOME as a cut off tool.

Thanks for this. I have a bunch of push gravers with points like this - from Friedrich Dick (F.Dick, with a laurel and arrow mark ~ famous tool maker, still in business today as they were 150 years ago)...
...and several that have specially shaped, multi-faceted points...
They were my grandfather's. (He was an artist (painter, sculptor, illustrator) and printmaker - engraved (hard)wood, made copper etchings and so on... He's been dead since I was 8 - my mom and aunts never asked why he sharpened the multi-faceted ones like that, unfortunately.
(Though I found that they can cut very thin lines, and go around curves better than the others)

Anyways, I digress...
This has been quite informative for me - gives me some more confidence in sharpening them (cause I like to use them, and WANT to use them, but I also feel a responsibility to keep them in perfect working condition)

Anyways, thx.
Cheers from Amsterdam

it's not about the size of the chisel but the motion of the wood

You forgot to mention back of the blade . Very important to have it flat and mirror polished

I have a vintage tyzak and sons 1/8" chisel. It's so small it only takes about 3 strokes of each grit to sharpen it

Actually, Sir, I would like to argue that small chisels are far superior due to their silly shape and also the fact that they look so cool

I thought chisels had a secondary angle! Why is it not the case here?

Please tell me the difference between chisels what end in a squared tip and an angled tip, I’ve seen both used on wood but is the angled tip more for designs like the metal engraving chisels?

That wasn't true and square though, you went a little too long it seems. (Edit: I have been corrected. )
