Arcaea's Potential System in a nutshell.

Also, keep in mind that lowiro hasn't revealed anything about how Potential is calculated. All the computations and the CCs are derived by the players, and may not be entirely accurate.

Updates since the release of this video (as of v5.9)
The current max Potential is *13.13* . Yes, you read that right, 13 PTT is now real. 3 star PTT players exist now.
For Free to Play players, you can gain up to *11.71* PTT, at the minimum.
If you're F2P and you got all songs from all Extend Archive packa for free, the max PTT you can get right now is (gasp) *12.00* . This does not take into account any other songs obtained from free Memories or 5th Anniversary Ticket.

Unlocking the following would also require reaching a certain Potential:
• PRIMITIVE LIGHTS (FTR) at 10 PTT
• Abstruse Dilemma (FTR) at 11 PTT
• Unlocking Testify through Axiom of the End. Fulfilling 5-IV requires you to submit a play with a Result Rating higher than your PTT. For example, if you're 11.20 PTT, you have to play a song and get a result rating of 11.21 or better (like uhh getting EX on a lvl 10 chart or EX+ on a 9). Checking your Best 30 scores is a good way to determine which songs you can play to fulfill that requirement.

This section used to list third-party score prober tools used to track scores and Potential progress, however they have become obsolete and unusable due to the release of Arcaea Online on April 27, 2023.
The only known alternative at this time is to make spreadsheets by manually encoding scores and plugging in the formulas needed to compute result ratings and the Potential itself.

Other notes (took me more than a year to notice this oh my god)
• (1:02) The Chart Constants for Chronostasis and Attraqtia have been changed in v4.0 (from 9.1 to 8.9, and 10.4 to 10.6). lowiro why tf did yall make chronostasis an 8
• Some unnecessary parts that were originally in the video were trimmed out.

tip: if you *really* dont want to lose ppt (ex. if youre warming up/derusting) you can turn off your wifi/internet,
but it will also mean you wont be able to gain ppt either (but its up to you)

The reason why I personally enjoy caring about potential is because it makes it more fun when I get sad when I lose potential and it makes me more happy when I gain potential. Especially when I hit a big milestone like 11 ptt

this is why i have my show potential disabled. since the ptt system seems so broken if you don’t know how it works, it can piss you off when you get upscore and lose potential since in your mind, it doesn’t make sense. thats why i have it disabled and just play casually, either grinding for some hard-ish songs or bettering at songs that are my level.

people really do focus more whether if they gain or lose potential rather than “ooh i’m getting better at this song! let’s go!”

Can I include one thing here, the PTT is not needed for luna world mode, instead the PTT decided the lowest difficulty needed instead, you can literally do it on 0.00 if you have Eto. Lower than 5 PTT lowest difficulty needed is past, between 5 and 10 PTT lowest difficulty needed is present and over 10 PTT lowest difficulty needed is future

I mean
the EX potential-protection exists for a reason.
It means that if you can't get a chart to EX (or at least near EX, something like 9.75mil or above), then leave the chart alone.
Play other charts until you get enough skills to EX said chart.

People who like to play charts that are beyond their levels would often find it difficult to play those charts again, even when their skills improved later, because the wrong muscle memory has stuck to them, and they will find it very difficult to alter the muscle memory.

Also, one tip is to always bring hard gauge partners. If you cannot pass the song on hard gauge, chances are that you probably aren't ready for the chart yet.

Just leaving this out there:

Playing for fun and not rushing potential is really the best way to go, if you like the number, sure, but don’t forget that it isn’t the most accurate review of your skill. Focus on upscores more. If you upscored in some way you have gained skill since your last play and if you’re someone who plays mostly for the feel of progress then that should be your measure. For instance, I saw someone who was kinda sad that them being 11.2 ptt having a lower score than (past) 10.8 me and that is a behaviour I don’t recommend. Celebrate achievements, no matter whose, that way, you will also help create an environment who is less focused on that number on top of your screen. I just don’t hide mine because I have people added who like to check up on friend ptts just for fun but the real challenge is in friend score leaderboards for us.

When I wasn’t very good at the game but I still decided to do charts/Difficulties I wasn’t good at, I lost so much potential (probably around 0.40 - 0.60). Now I can EX/EX+ most 10+ difficulties and EX’d Grievous Lady & Fracture Ray, with 12.08 potential but i’m still a little upset at myself for losing a lot of potential

I see PTT as a good goal-setting tool if approached correctly. But I must admit I've been taking it the wrong way as of late. I've been in pretty meh form and haven't managed to ditch the PTT addiction fully, which leads to lots of frustration. I just disabled PTT for now lol

3:59 that's exactly what happened to me a year ago, I played Kanagawa on World Mode with fracture hikari but the game's kinda.. Broken i guess? When the song's almost finished, I pressed the arcs with the correct finger but somehow the arc turns red even tho my hands aren't sweaty and the recollection rate is already at hard gauge so i literally [had to] took my fingers off the screen and just let it track lost, when entering score screen the game literally depletes -0.11 ptt, the hell man
(Luckily tho i played Solitary Dream after that and got a Full Recall [EX+] and the game gave me +0.12 ptt)

Half joking aside, my potential is rated at around 11.30

It fluctuates whenever I play, but that's the average. I've kinda "peaked" in the sense that I haven't been able to make this go higher for... A really long time now.
Though it's not really. I just decided since potential doesn't unlock anything beyond getting an 11.0 I just decided I don't give a damn.
If I tried like I did when I was a measly 9.0 who could barely do any FTR9's on my way to grinding to 11 to get SAIKYO I could probably get to 12.0 as well, or at the very least 11.50. I just don't care.

The journey is always more important than the destination.

Getting hung up on methods is a way to make yourself unhappy very quickly, and that's exactly what potential and PP in Arcaea and osu! are.

Much like how getting too focused on gaining money can make you unhappy. Money is a means, not an end, always remember the reason you were gaining those cash in the first place.
