Installing Straw Blankets with a Sod Staple Driver

There aren’t many jobs I hate as much as installing these straw blankets.
Don’t get me wrong they work great- especially on a slope.
When you get down to the end of the roll- they’re just a pain to install.
The netting sticks to itself and it turns into a tangled-up mess.
Now I had the new guy helping me, but I think his mind must have been somewhere else because he wasn’t doing a whole lot.
We use these 6” round sod staples so it doesn't blow away.
Sometimes you can just stick these in the ground and step on them- but our ground is so hard I have to use a hammer.
Until I found the best tool ever, a sod staple driver, it’s basically just a stick with a magnet on the end.
Funny story I was putting some of these in with a hammer out by the road and one of my friends that’s a landscaper saw me and pulled over.
He said- “I’ve got the perfect tool for that, you need to come borrow it.”
So, I did and this thing is a lifesaver.
Now all I need is some rain. @hausplans

That guy who helped you is a true saint. Seriously, saving people's time out of the kindness of their heart is a role model level trait

I’m starting to believe that the “new guy” isn’t actually the new guy, he’s the big boss

Iv seen tons of comments asking about why use the straw mat rolls. The straw mat helps with erosion control, it also helps keep the sun from baking the new plants and also the mat holds moisture/water that the new grass needs to grow.

As the poster has said in another post, the straw mat is help together with plastic type mat. The plastic will not biodegrade, but you can sometimes pull the mat out after the grass starts to grow.

The fact that you went out of your way to plot a narrative about your dog sabotaging you is pure gold!

I love how excited people get to share a better method when you’re caught struggling. Because we all know what it’s like to be bumbling around doing it the hard way.
