Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry test (DEXA or DXA)

Показать описание
In the nutrition lab, researchers perform a DEXA or DXA scan (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) to measure bone mineral density, and fat and lean mass. DEXA scans are used to diagnose and assess osteoporosis. Researchers in kinesiology use the scan to understand the effects of dietary fiber, metabolic health and body composition in diseased and healthy states. The scan takes about three minutes and patients are asked to remove jewelry and remain still to get the best results. Undergraduate students use the DEXA scan for nutrition research projects.
