Half of these conflicts could have been avoided if the king of Leinster had just kept his gub shut.

Whatever everyone else says, I think this is a really good overview; it's short and humorous and all in all well done.

Thank you so much. I'm giving a speech about Northern Ireland and couldn't find any page about the History which was short enough so I could read it in 5 hours. I really appreciate your work. Would be nice if you'd have subtitles next time, because you speak so fast so it's hard for me to understand every word. I'm from Germany :) Thanks

Fun fact. St. Patrick is actually more associated with the color blue than with the color green. He earned the green part because he used to tie shamrocks to his robs since he often used them as a metaphor for the holy trinity, each leaf of the clover representing one person of the God head. However, his order and he himself wore blue robes of a lighter shade. While we're on the topic of the whole blue green thing, since the twelfth century, Ireland's national color was blue. You can see this for instance in the ancient Irish standard, a golden harp on a blue background. However, in more recent times, Ireland has become more associated with the color green due to the IRA. Just some interesting facts about Ireland and St. Patrick (I'm Irish-American).

Very informative and newspapers never followed this. I always had to depend upon word of mouth to understand. Then people always made vague comments long ago that I could never understand as a teen. Thanks.

I went to Belfast in August, I had a fantastic time there. As someone who grew up unaware of the situation from 1969-1998, I first heard of Northern Ireland as a result of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, I wanted to see for myself what it is like there. One of the aspects of the agreement that got my attention, was that by voting for peace, people were being asked to vote for the release of their loved one's killer. All political prisoners were to be released. It really struck me how much Belfast has changed (looking at pictures from the news anyway) for the better. I filmed my stay in Belfast and divided it into 3 parts, feel free to check it out as you please.
like your videos by the way, keep them up,
best,
Simon

Thanks so much for this amazing video!
We discussed Irish History at university and this is great to gain an overview.
However, I think it would be good if you would speak a little slower. The pace in this video is really fast, a bit too fast in my opinion if one wants to read the dates and names whilst listening along. But except for that: well done! :)

The part on the potato famine, Irish people didn't die because the crop failed, it did fail but the other crops did well. These crops ending up in English ports. This has to start being mentioned a bit more, because you assume there wasn't enough food, when there was tons.
