There are many songs of Halsey that I can relate to, but this one... every single word hits me hard. It is the exact description of my first relationship. I was with a deeply troubled guy with a difficult past. I was troubled too, ain't gonna lie. The whole thing was messed up. But I truly loved him. I'd like to think he did too because he was there for me in a way no one was. And I was there for him. Until it got too much. We were hurting each other. I was hurting myself trying to help him. I found out he cheated on me. Never let him explain. It's been months. And despite all this, I listen to this song and think about him. I still believe he is a good person despite all the bad things he's done. I still believe he is kind and smart and weird in his own special way.
And yet he hid and closed his eyes and messed up and lied to the one that he loved.
Thank you for this song. I keep it close to my heart. ♥ And sorry for the boring rant.
