The 2020 Volkswagen Passat is The Throwback Sedan to The Last Decade

The #VolkswagenPassat was all-new back in 2012 and it’s larger size and lower price allowed it to sell nearly 100,000 units annually. Today, #Volkswagen barely sells 15,000 #Passat models every year and for 2020, the #VWPassat gets a through refresh, but it’s not the all-new platform that Europe and other parts of the world get.

They won't upgrade the car because sales are low. Sales are low because they won't upgrade the car.

I think it's a nice, roomy, comfortable car. I took this car out for a test drive and it drove very smoothly. It's a throwback to earlier years, is easy to drive and operate, and although it is not loaded with tons of tech features one comes to expect in today's newer cars, it does have some important updated safety improvements. It has everything you need, actually. The Navigation screen is small and primitive by today's standards. True, but it does come with Apple and Android Car Play so you can always connect your phone and use Waze or Google Maps. In my opinion, sometimes simple is best. And since this is a first-time car for my son, it's perfect.

In North America VW is not worth spending my money, if I would be in Europe then yes.

Absolutely embarrassing. To put a VW badge on this car is insane. The strategic decision to go 'cheap' in the NA market is very sad. Passat is a flagship sedan that deserves the best tech the company offers. Europe and other markets offer appealing and cutting edge tech, stronger engine choices, better fit and finish components etc. ...Just disappointing knowing what it could be.

This car still looks better than most SUVs and crossovers that are around nowadays.

You have to be a real German fan boy to choose this over a Camry or the kia K5 which blows this out of the water.

VW threw in the towel on this car about 9 years ago

This generation of passat is the laziest car VW has done in a while. Just kill this thing off and let the Arteon take over. No one buys this anyways 🤣

I love the Passats. I have a 2017 r-line and I love it. I loved the minor exterior face lift the did in 2016. This model of Passat doesn’t look bad at all. I like it.

I dont understand all the hate against the 2020 Passat and the 2.0T engine. I just bought a 2020 Passat R-Line, and use 93 octane in it and am very impressed. I drove the new sonata, and new camry and chose the Passat due to the awesome value and certain features it had over the camry SE and Sonata.
My Passat has the sunroof, leatherette seating, heated seats, etc whereas the camry se did not have any of these features, and the sonata I looked at was the same price as the passat and had cheap cloth seats.
The 2.0T has a lot of low end torque and i just took a trip to NY to VA and averaged 38MPG.
This 2.0T is also MUCH more refined than the Camrys base engine with the 8 speed, and has much more low end torque than the 2.5L in the sonata.
Sure, the interior is basic and isn't anything special, but it does what it needs to do.
For 27k for a brand new 2020 Passat R-Line, I am not complaining.

Man, I really want to like this car. I'm still a huge fan of midsize and fullsize sedans. The styling on this is pretty nice and the quality looks good. But 174hp on a 2 liter turbo? Why so low? And then fuel economy is not as good as the others? It's still good but it could definitely be better. I guess it's maybe because of new emission regulations? I think vw is starting to give up on sedans. Just like ford...

I like that it still has the traditional sedan silhouette. None of that sloping roof stuff which cuts down the rear headroom.

I'd much rather go with the new Arteon!

I test drove one of these when I was looking for my current car. Needless to say I bought a Hyundai Sonata instead haha
