Swimming Pool Heat Pumps - How they Work

In general swimming pools can be heated very efficiently by using a heat pump. They are efficient because they are not making heat but rather moving it from one space to another just like a heat pump (or AC) in your home. Unless you want to heat your pool in extremely low temperatures (in which case you likly would not be swimming anyway) a heat pump is the best option for cost effectively heating your pool.

Would this make sense in Northern California? We rarely go below 30’s at the most in winter and we are looking to keep the pool at least 5/10 degrees warmer and we can supplement later with a gas heater. Our gas here is very expensive with PGE

Doing a pool build this spring. Live in Minnesota. Isn’t natural gas cheaper then electric? How do the two compare in running cost? Would a natural gas only make sense if heating the pool occasionally vs constantly each month.

Can you have both types? Maybe hooked up parallel with bypasses (if you even need to do this) Have you ever done it? Heat pump for most of the season, gas for when you need extra heat faster.

Do you know if you need 24 inches of clearance on all sides of the heat pump? The Hayward 140 BTU instructions state that should be 24 inches of clearance on all sides. Do you know if that’s necessary or can I install it the way you have it?

Is it really running backwards? is the txv metered into the Condenser coil? of course not we are pulling heat out of the Air, the outside air just like the inside air but outside right and so it gets cold the water is heated because we dump the heat into the water instead of the Air Anyway, just like on a boat it is not running backwards my friend. Even with a reversing valve it still does not run backwards because suction on the compressor always remains suction same as discharge line these two are fixed and never change. But I do have a question what is the pool heater BTU with a 5 ton compressor about?

I have a question

my heat pump doesn't work anymore water temp stays around 79F but it was working two week ago water got too hot I had to close the system but now my outside Temp are 25°c to 30°c with very cool at night for now in Canada and can't seem to heat up anymore stays around 76F to 79F

What is the best way to figure out if I got to buy a new one or its probably cold nights giving it hard time

I have a astral pool 24 kw heat pump and wanted to ask if there's a way I can connect a pipe from the pump to the drain for the condensation or whatever you may call it? When the pump is on there's constant water on the floor and it really annoys the crap out of me. Is there a way I can fix this or is thus just hiw these pumps work?

What if u want to swim through the winter like I would? Thinking in future building outdoor pool but we live in Indiana I like to swim even if it’s cold out since it’s in the back yard. Is that not possible? Instead of summer short months only. We swim at the local Y in the winter season but rather up grade to my backyard without building the pool in doors.
