WHY BUY GRUMMAN

Have to agree! Flew my AA1A for 22 years and along the way installed a LYC 0-320 motor of 150hp, plus aux tanks doubling available fuel. That made it fly as fast as the Tiger and it had decent range too! These Grummans cannot be compared with the experience of flying a "comfy sedan" which handles like a bus or a truck - they are all "fighter airplanes" with responsive handling, and in fact were advertised as such in the 1980s with the slogan "Fly a Fighter" - also referring to fighting high operating costs. Flew all over southern Africa in all sorts of conditions and can confirm that the Grumman is an honest, tough and capable aircraft. I can heartily recommend them all!

I've enjoyed the speed, comfort, viz and benign handling of the 4-seat Grumman Americans. The only reason I like my turbo Mooney better is that it provides even more Grumman-style handling, speed and economy.

Been researching for a few months now. Don't want the Cessna's High-Wing (lack of) visibility, don't want any Piper PA28 models because of The wing spar AD coming up so ended up contemplating on a Debonair, Piper Comanche or Grumann. You might just have convinced me to go for this Tiger thing.

I got my private in an AA-1B in Lynchburg! What I really liked is the VT flag and the dice on the compass. I hope we cross paths some day!😀

I did most of my private and instrument training in Grumman cheetahs. Very fond of them.

What prevents canopy open during level flight? You said only during climb and descent. Airspeed limitation with canopy open? Thanks.
