The Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) for Young African Leaders is the flagship program of the U.S. Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). In 2023, the Fellowship will take in 700 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa to different states in the USA with the opportunity to hone their skills at various U.S. Colleges and Universities. You will also experience amazing support for professional development after return home.

It is important to when you are doing your applications to use real stories, statistics and examples to describe your achievements and as you answers the essays success. When answering application questions, be specific and provide details! It is also important to clearly state the impact of your work, as well as your plans for after the Fellowship. How will you apply what you learned in the United States to your work in your home community? Show that you will learn from other Fellows and highlight how knowledge acquired during the Fellowship will improve your work.
