I worked part-time most of my life and raised 2 daughters without child support. I began by saving $1, 000 per year. Just before I retired, I was saving $1, 000 per month. Little by little, I learned that there were multiple things I could go without.

I live in a studio apartment. To save on groceries, I fast, diet and eat small portions. I'm 63. Weigh 125 pounds. Perfect health.

I'm very comfortably retired. It just requires discipline. There is no other magic mind set other than that.

When you working for an employer, you're just one paycheck away from poverty, it comes very quickly, when you lose your job.

Yes! These principles work to make a person successful. I will brag a bit and say that at 56 years old, I am highly regarded at my bus driving job because I try harder than anyone else. Knowing that you probably won't ever be fired, is a wonderful feeling. When I was younger I was lazy and dishonest. Could not keep a job and my life was chaos.
What I have learned, in my experience, is that the most important thing I could have done throughout my life to be more successful, was to be kind to absolutely everyone. People love to help people who are nice to them. You just don't know who might give you that big boost. Could be anyone.

Thanks Douglas.
You are one of the very few people I know here in Youtube or the entire internet for that matter that will teach value to people without first selling them something.

I am a NY lawyer facing temporary poverty because of illness. Your talk impressed me so much. It is wonderful that you care about crushing poverty, even acknowledge it. So I am going to read your books, and check your website. I am older, but far from dead. So much of my problem is feeling like dirt and garbage. It is very hard to keep your head and spirits up when you are poor. Thank you for raising these issues. My library books are overdue bc of illness. Yikes. Also, I do Toastmasters and another public speaking, trial prep. Your presentation skils are excellent. so if nothing else, I am noting how you frame issues. I need to do similar things helping consumers with American immigration. Too many lawyers speak to other lawyers and not consumers. Bravo.

I grew up with a very negative view of motivational speakers/personal development coaches. The person I knew who was most interested in them even described herself as "vindictive" and "power hungry". Needless to say I've steered clear of anything I think resembles the genre, but I'm actually happy that I found Douglas Kruger especially at this point in my life. Something about his approach and expressing creativity at the same time as delivering complex concepts in a comprehensive manner has slowly begun to change my life for the better. Everyone says "be positive" these days, but I'm learning it's much like faith fellowship. We need support and guidance from other like-minded people. Another well done video. Much respect to you Douglas.

I never used to read books. That was a huge mistake on my part. Once I found personal development books, I find I like to read.
Also, poverty is ignorance. Reading can enlighten even the most stubborn soul and deliver anyone from poverty!

Integrity is the first step to permanent wealth. It all starts with self belief. You feel great about yourself when you do the right thing, give more than what is asked and the universe responds accordingly.

It’s about how we respond to circumstances. One person says “My situation is so bleak, I can’t do anything to get out!” The other says, “My situation was so dire I had no choice but to find a way out.”

I became a felon as a teenager. I got out and started a home care business and married a young lady. I was doing pretty well in my twenties. Then it seemed like everything just went awry...

I went through a divorce and had to sue my business partner all at the same time. The business crumbled and I was left to consult other home care business operators just to make ends meet. I slept on couches for a few years. My credit was shot and I had a toddler to support.

I learned some new skillsets and eventually 5 years later I have an internet based business earning just over $50K/mo.

There were many many days I endured intense depression and I didn’t think it would be a way out...

But there always is.

Please don’t settle for less. If you have a dream write it out then execute it. To try and fail is better than to just settle for mediocrity.

I moved out of south central Los Angeles. I began to work on these principles and I now live in my dream home in the Suburbs of Los Angeles. Many people never leave and poverty becomes inevitable. Have a vision and focus on it.

"...replace trust with excellence..."
The most powerful ideas are often simple, elegant and sadly quickly overlooked. Thanks for the timely reminder.

This guy has some excellent advice on basic wealth creation... without even needing to focus on money.
And they apply to anyone in any situation.
These principles are exactly what I followed to develop my career from nothing to the top level over just 5 years. I didn't even realise I was following these but they worked.
I took every available training. I constantly educated myself. I asked for more responsibilities.
And no matter what shitty little job I was given, I did it to the highest standard ever been done.
It worked.

Douglas is just amazing. He taught me to own the sale and stop being the chef in my own restaurant. I'm forever indebted to him for that small but VERY BIG TIP, that is Life changing for anyone who applies it
