I'm trying to make some homeschool decisions for next year. In this video I go through all of my current puzzles as well as curriculum I might try out next year - it is a bit of a "stream of consciousness" type of video, hopefully it isn't too confusing :) Have you started planning for next year?

The handwriting we’ve used this year and I’ve really liked is handwriting without tears

I really appreciate this “live brainstorming” type of video. So real and helpful 💛

You may want to check out Evan Moor workbooks. We are going to be doing writing and spelling using their workbooks next year.

This is the same process I’ve been going through this week for next year with a kindergartener, 1st grader and 2nd grader. Plus a busy 18month old (will be two before school starts) I told my husband I’m starting to obsess and drive myself crazy! The more I look into a given subject, the more different curricula I find. And of course the one I think hits all the bases is totally out of budget. I like how you started with your vision and bigger view for homeschool and just assessing your own situation for how much time realistically we will have per child or per subject.

I know how you’re feeling! I am too and this was only my second year with three kids, two are autistic. I’m having a time sorting my brain too, but thanks for sharing

I loved listening through your thought process. It was comforting and helpful as many are going through similar thought processes and I have shared it with others.

Hey, I was intrigued to find out that we have the exact same process. I decided to map out as much as I could as a guideline of what I thought I’d most likely be interested in from 2nd-6th grade. We are in first grade and are in our second year of homeschooling. I have been following you since I started last year. You are actually one of my favorite homeschooling moms :) thanks for sharing!!!

This is my process too. Now I feel a little less crazy haha. Taking it out like this to my husband just isn’t the same as hearing it from another mama though. I love this!!

My process is bible, history, science and writing are group subjects along with morning menu ( memory work, math and Geography drills). My kids are close in age so it works. ELA and math are independent while I work with my youngest. Everyday 30 minutes of silent reading 365 days a year.
I like to outsource science with online and I will outsource IEW with the DVD and outschool.
Co-op for enrichment.
My goal is always 1/3 mom intensive, 1/3 outsource, 1/3 student led curriculum.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Mine will be 8 in the fall and I am trying to wrap my head around having a 3rd grader 😓 We have an all in one for LA and we love it.
I just hope that what I am using continues to work for him. I'm always checking out different resources because I have the "What if" mindset, but also because I kind of have a curriculum addiction 😬😆

You said so many things that are exactly my thoughts! I am waffling back and forth between Abeka, Sonlight, and The Good and the Beautiful with also some thoughts toward The Brave Writer and Ambleside Online, etc. So! I really want to know your ultimate picks! Also in consideration for me is the thought to do some family style as I will have a 3rd and 1st grader this year.

This is how I think and plan! Simple is definitely what I go for as well. We LOVE Logic of English for Language Arts. 😊

Oh my goodness! I feel the EXACT same regarding language arts!!! I’ve struggled so much finding something that works for our family. I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one with this big mind puzzle going on🤪❤️

I highly recommend the Moffat Girls spelling! You find them at TPT and she has 1st and 2nd grade spelling. Easy, fun and to the point!

I have almost everything planned and bought for next year already 😀I have a yearly plan on a spreadsheet for each of the next 5 years with my kids' names on the top and subject categories along the left side. It helps me to visualize how the years will look and to put those puzzle pieces together as you said. We started off piecing together LA and it was frustrating. We switched to TGTB for our 3rd year and it's so nice to have everything wrapped up together. My oldest is in high school now and it's a very solid LA program. Keep in mind there are so many ways to work on writing without a formal program like having a pen pal, writing to family members, writing out the grocery list etc. Another thought is to do a 4 day week and then on the 5th-day focus on the writing or spelling etc. that you want to add in.

This is me EVERY YEAR! I will have a 4th, 2nd, pre-K, and a 3yo preschooler next year. A puzzle is EXACTLY what this is and yes…. I always have to think about future years. This is the hardest part of homeschooling in my opinion.

It’s so encouraging to hear another mama who plans multiple years down the road. I have a note saved in my phone for curriculum I want to keep in mind per subject! It’s not set in stone of course, but it helps me remember what I’ve looked into and my likes and dislikes.

I loved this video. You have a lot of the same thoughts I have had. I have seven kids and have used Abeka for phonics. We are using Sonlight for the first time this coming fall (your videos have been so helpful!), and will be using IEW for a few of my older kids, starting 4th grade. Just a comment about spelling - we are using BJU spelling from 2-6th grade. We love it. I feel that it reinforces what they have learned in Abeka really well. I think you would like it! It is very independent for the child, too.
