Cirkus Movie Review by Anupama Chopra

To the already busy plot in Cirkus, director Rohit Shetty & the writers add half a dozen characters, a superhuman ability for one twin to endure electric currents, which somehow transfers to the other twin even though he lives in another town, love interests who crowd the frame without adding much value and a larger philosophical debate about nature versus nurture. Apart from being an oversized entertainer, Cirkus also wants to advocate for tolerance and inclusivity. It’s a noble thought but the film is a mess. To know more about the movie, watch the full review by Anupama Chopra on Reviews and More by Film Companion.

Ranveer is getting hopelessly typecast in real and reel life - loud, gaudy and hyper

This project is example how everything turned waste. Regret watching. Unbearable. Nobody was laughing.

In reference to double role being played which you gave, one mention has to be of Kangana Ranaut for Tanu weds Manu 2 . One of my friend in the end of the movie said “the other heroine who played Haryanvi role was good, is she new ?” Now that’s how a double role is nailed

“Perhaps they were compensating for the lackluster writing” 😂👌🏻

I really wonder who would actually go to watch such a film, the senseless trailer itself was quite evident of what this film would actually be. I can empathize with the critics who have to bear with the torture of watching it, to write the reviews.

Angoor wasn't a direct adaptation from Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors. It was a remake of the 1963 Bengali adaptation "Bhranti Bilash" starring Uttam Kumar. This is only important to point out cause Angoor matched the Bengali version scene for scene in many instances.

This movie is an example of how I can laugh at something with the intense pain of bad jokes..!! It is now painfully humorous to think of my life, that I had to drive 50-55 minutes one side just to watch this and finally decided to stay back a while and watch another movie just so that i can get over the regret.. !! Wish me luck !! 😌

Originally written in a Latin play Menaechmi by Platutus (date unknown)

Popularized in english by Shakespeare- Comedy of Errors (1594)

translated decades later, by Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar- Bhrantibilas (1869)

made into a bengali film with the same name- Bhrantibilas starring Uttam Kumar (1963)

remade into a hindi film- Do Dooni Char starring Kishore Kumar (1968)

remade again into another hindi film- Angoor starring Sanjeev Kumar (1982)

and now remade AGAIN, in Rohit Shetty's Cirkus (2022)

Angoor - what a classic!!! Going to watch again. It is like that delicious food dish which when mentioned by anyone anywhere you crave for it immediately whether hungry or not.

It's kind of satisfying to see Rohit Shetty being called out for being the fraud that he is. He's a hack whose Golmaal series has been ripped off/inspired by older films and plays and whose "Cop Universe" is essentially remakes of Tamil (Singham) and Telugu (Temper) films. Even on this channel and on FC, he's been called the only Hindi filmmaker today who makes massy films multiple times, which is laughable.

The learning from this and all previous movies written by Farhad Samji is that it should not be touched even by a barge pole, include all movies directed by him too in that list.

Angoor was a remake of the 1963 Bengali feature "Bhranti Bilas" (which actually translates to Comedy of errors)....the best and most organic adaptation of Comedy of errors in the Indian scene...starring Uttam Kumar and Bhanu Bandopadhyay....a classic and a must must watch... can't recommend it enough...pure gold.
