W164 OM642 Mercedes Benz diesel 2010 ML350 CDI Engine Noise

Just bought the car a few days ago, anyone knows why the noise come from?

There are a lot of noises there. I can hear the belts and the injectors, and also a kind of weird clatter - is that the noise you mean? I would probably remove the belt and check all pulleys, and then run the engine without the belt. Use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope to your ear and try and localise the noise source.

the vacuum pump goes bad quite often on these engines and causes a similar sound

I have same sound. Alternator freewheel was stuck and waved the belt tensioner.
