Fully agree that she’s a musician’s musician. She’s so clever and creative with her music and her voice, she’s a true artist.

PLEASE do Wildflower live from this same set... it is mind blowingly good

She and Finneas both were in a choir growing up. Since they were homeschooled, their “extracurricular” lessons were more intense than what they’d be like for kids who go to a “regular” school. She also did gymnastics and dance, and (very relatably), the family was constantly singing and playing and creating music on the instruments strewn about in every corner of their little home.

Billie has stated she loves artists like Ella and has been influenced by great jazz vocalists.

I know you did WILDFLOWER but the live version from this session is on another level. Live instruments and added vocalists give it dimension and texture and Billie riffs on it in such a way that you hear AND SEE the emotions.

I am not particularly knowledgable about all the elements that play into making this so amazing, but I was also floored. This song and performance are just pure joy to me!

Always enjoy your breakdowns. You really should take a listen to "Wildflower" from this same session. I think it will blow you away.

And YES! I think that the same thing that makes a great writer is that they are a voracious reader of all genres of books also applies to musicians. Every time Billie and Finneas do a “ List of songs that…changed me/ influenced me/ are important to me etc” it is a very eclectic mix - often including many artists that I have never even heard of.

Always love your Billie reactions. She is my favorite songwriter-performer. Thanks. This is her best album!!

This is my favorite reaction from a musician yet! I love that you call her a "crooner."

Another older guy who appreciates Billie and Finneas' work as much as I. Love your reactions.

8:20 I honestly feel like her physical singing techniques - especially her riffs and crooning - are from musical theater training. Or maybe her vocal coaches specialize in musical theater. Billie really does have amazing physical control, along with just as amazing breath control. She sings very "healthy"! I really, really enjoy her live recordings, and definitely this song too.

Billie never took any vocal lessons until recently on this new album. She thought vocal lessons were for people who didn’t know how to sing so she figured she didn’t need them. But she realized her voice is an instrument and she wanted to see where she could take it. She only recently realized she was able to belt! And has been experimenting with that. Insane talent.

Billie's always said that one of her favorite artists is Frank Sinatra and think she really does pull from that a lot.

I have had the time as a retired 70 yr. old "Billie appreciator/admirer" [I don't think of myself as a fan of any of the "superstars" I've grown up with or of younger artists - I know what I like but I'm not close to OBSESSION or ADORATION!] to take note of more of her live performances than you, I think - simply because you are not a couch potato - thank God! - you have music to make and reactions to do - but there are many that are special. I love the new album and WWAFAWDWG - but when they do songs live with piano or guitar or when she sang Peggy Lee's "Fever with Christian McBride on upright bass, that's special - Your words on Billie's gifts, and on melodies, are so apropos; and on the Studio version of this song there is a part 2 which, in my mind, for the song's sake, really didn't need to be there. Her live version of "Wildflower" is also terrific. Keep up the good work! P.S. I wonder if she will ever do a Jazz or jazz-like album - other musicians would need to be trusted and incorporated by Finneas, and Billie. Also, it sure would be nice if you were able to interview her - when she does a relaxed, comfortable interview, Billie is truly engaging. and at times, mesmerizing.

I don’t have a lot of pop artist or musician from the 2010 and more in my playlist. I’m a big fan of the 70s and 80s. One of my favorite musician is Phil Collins…

But Billie and Phineas are unique, they move me, they make me feel like I’m in a rollercoster. They are the type of musicians you want to listen for the first Time over and over again.

I really like some new voice but the composition have to hit, the story, the evolution of the song and the album.

They did really good with the album.

This was so good, you would also love Clairo’s new album Charm! “Juna” is a favorite off of it and she’s performed it live too !
