Who is Jiangxue? Genshin Impact Theory

What do we know of the fishy fisherman, Jiangxue? And is it enough to hint at what his past might have been? We're tackling the mystery behind the Wangshu Inn's favorite freeloader, and seeing if we can conjure up some theories on how his life may have landed where it currently is.

This dude's my favorite NPC in the game, and I really hope miHoYo keeps giving us small glimpses into his past, before finally tying him into the main story.

Jiangxue was Timme's dad. He murdered countless of Timme's birds with his Q, and then run away after knowing his son was a stand user. And he also threw away his vision to get rid of the evidence

My only answer to who's Jiangxue is he may be the martial artist who threw away his vision when he found out he was possibly killing innocent monsters, the idea came from reading the ruin treasures at Guyun Stone forest: "But now that my fellow disciple has obtained his Vision, instead of battling against monsters, he asked me, "Are monsters truly evil by nature?" So I replied to him, "They wreak havoc all across the world, and innocent people are the ones who must suffer the consequences. Is that so insufficiently evil that you should stay your blade?" I do believe an excess of meditation has fried his brain!
Well, I still intend to take on these monsters — even if it means doing so without him, and even if it means doing without a Vision." this made me think Jiangxue opposed his master's teachings that monsters were evil by nature and he felt compassion because some of the monsters they may have fought didn't even interacted with human society in the first place, only to be senselessly slaughtered by both of them

I have a headcanon that he's actually the geo yaksha and the one bad thing he did was killing the hydro yaksha, which could be a reason why he likes fishing so much, also the puzzle behind him where you have to affect some things with geo might have some correlation with him being the geo yaksha.
Edit: after the new quest, it turns out this fisherman is just really strong and isnt the yaksha, now im just more curious.

I only wish I could saw this video earlier. I didn’t saw anyone mentioned where the name jiangxue is coming from, so here
Jiang xue came from a old Chinese poem from Tang Dynasty by Liu Zongyuan. His name is from the tittle “JiangXue”(江雪）it translated as “river snow”.
More about the background of this poem, the poet Took part in a revolution ended up failed. He later got demoted to have a small position in a remote country authority. His tittle was just a name. He had no power to do anything, and he was actually a “prisoner” being watched and monitored by the local government.
The whole poem ROUGHLY translated as follow
“Birds flys no more on the thousands of mountains, no traces of people can be seen on all paths. An old man on bamboo rain coat, fishing alone in the cold river snow.”

a good question, i also have my own answer but i havent done any deep research yet and there some important missing evidence as well
my guess is Jiangxue might be Amber missing grandfather
why:
- Amber missing grandfather is from Liyue, his name was never mention
- He stayed at Mondstadts to repay his debt after a fail mission from Liyue
- He is powerful enough to create and become a leader of a team in Favonius knight order
- From Amber and Eula description of him before he went missing, he is still very healthy and strong for a man of his age
- the message board in Quince village also mention a long time missing person return recently which is very likely is him
- Quince village is relatively close to the inn
- when he gone missing from mondstadts he left behind a sword

Hmm both theories fit well, If I have to choose.. I will go for the non yaksha one, just because it would be too easy to find two of them in the same place >_<

I'd like to know more about the inn. Why does one single inn:
need to be under the control of the Qixing?
harbors at least one Yaksha?
one superhuman fisherman?
one immortal?
one ghost?
and various sketchy humans?
Need to be this frigging huge in the middle of nowhere?

i love that mihoyo has so much lore and stories to go back and uncover - it’s exciting to see if we’ll get more new liyue/mondstadt centric quests even with inazuma and everything else on the way :))
