Helldivers 2 is being reviewed negatively mainly around the inclusion of nProcte Game Guard, an invasive Anti-Cheat. Is it that bad? Is it really left over when you install the game? How do you remove what people consider a "rootkit"?

This video shows you everything.

There is no way of knowing that the anti-cheat is fully uninstalled even after running the uninstaller. This is closed source kernel level software running on a closed source OS. You are not able to view the source code of the kernel, or this anti-cheat, and therefore have no certainty of whether or not that "Uninstallation Completed" isn't just a phony dialogue box that only removes the files you are able to see on Windows. If this anti-cheat were to be compromised, or to be used inappropriately by a bad actor, consider yourself screwed. They will have access to do literally ANYTHING they want with your computer.

"You can just delete those folders... oops... you can't delete this folder for one or the other reason" - like some executive is still using hidden files within it?

Not displaying hidden files, doesn't let you close out of that file, means something was still using that, which you couldn't see. Sus as fuck.

This video is missing the point, it's whether the anti cheat runs when the game is closed down, I spend a lot of time keeping a clean and optimized gaming PC, I don't want this crap running after the game is closed. Not only that, I have no clue what it's doing, if it was 100% locked to monitoring the game that would be great, I don't like the idea of it poking around with my disks. So yeah I'm not buying helldivers 2, sick of this sort of BS from game companies.

Please dont use the word review bomb. Its completely valid to leave a negative review for a CO OP GAME using kernel level anti cheat. Review bomb is a dumb way to pass of criticism.

It sounds like this need to switch the anti-cheat to something more trusted. Some of my friends won't buy the game because of it.. :(

for a single/co-op no competitive game to have this it totaly deserves the hate.

I don't mind that it goes away when it's uninstalled, I just don't know why such an invasive anti cheat is required in a co-op game at all. Very poor choice from the devs IMO

this dang anticheat was disabling my bluetooth audio adapter... so i had no audio at all from my pc when i started the game... found a work around on some forums though still annoying

Thanks. I did not realize it came with this anti-cheat when I bought/installed it, but found out soon after. Uninstalled it and asked for a refund and wanted to check that is all I need to do. My main problem is not that it uses anti-cheat, but, that like Vanguard, it's always on from boot time which is a big no-no for me.

Can Arrowhead Studios just uninstall the current anti-cheat program and use a more reliable and safe anti-cheat program?

Wait so they updated the game so that if you uninstall it it's fully uninstalls the anticheat too?

My issue is, why does a PvE game need such a deep level anti-cheat?

Are you sure there’s nothing left on the registry? I’ve read that some NProtect stuff stay there after uninstall.

Nearly my entire group gave up on this from the anti cheat. Why they decided to shove this in is beyond me.

While you have the game installed, would you know if the anti-cheat is active at all times, even when the game is not running? Like does it start on boot, or not turn off after exiting the game?

Bad misinformation. You did not completely get rid of it.

When I go to task manager, and I check the services tab .... nProtect was still there. I reinstalled the game, used the uninstaller included, deleted that tools folder, I checked the bin folder and seen there was another GameGuard named file, deleted that, uninstalled the game and rechecked the services tab in task manager .... It's gone from there now. Doing a search through my PC for anything that may still be associated with it, found nothing, doesn't mean I'm good though does it ?

in addition to being extremely invasive, with the way my pc is setup, there is no way for a program to access my root files unless I specifically allow a program to do so. Imagine how frustrating that is that everytime I want to play the game I have to give this 1 program access that it shouldnt even have or need in the first place. Not only is it problematic from a security perspective but it makes the game harder to play
