Welcome back to to Third Rate content , where we unravel the eerie history and haunted mysteries of rural England! This week, join me at Shipton Church in Shropshire for a chilling exploration of “Haunted Shipton Church: Mayflower’s Lost Children.” Built in the 12th century and rebuilt in 1589, this Grade II listed church holds the tragic tale of the More family—four children (Ellen, Jasper, Richard, and Mary) baptized here, banished on the Mayflower in 1620, with only Richard surviving. Discover the church’s ancient font, its ties to the Mayflower’s grim voyage, and the ghostly whispers of lost souls that may linger.

We hope to uncover some of the haunting history of Shipton Church and its connection to the Mayflower.
The More children’s tragic banishment and their spectral presence. We consider the excellent Elizabethan restoration and it integration with the pre existing Norman structure.

Filmed in late February 2025, this 12-minute journey captures Shipton’s somber beauty and liminal allure. Explore the tower, font, and graveyard—do their spirits still call?

great video dan as with women covering their heads that was from the bible in the times of the corinthians women would cover there heads as a sign of complete devotion and submission to god and to say they were married but as a Christian we know that god made a woman with her hair and that is her glory and her covering corinthians 1. 11/15. hope this helps Phil 👍

Another fab video! So interesting! ❤ and I completely agree these places call to us to pay them attention. I’m also not religious but appreciate the human stories old churches hold

6:00 Elinor 9, Jasper 7, Richard 11, Mary 4 - poor mites, sent to America for their mother's alleged 'sin'. God Bless.

7:30 Glad you listened to Dad & ditched the hat (apologies it was me who said!) and yes English ladies did wear hats to Church/Chapel, respectfully covering their hair - until the late 70s anyway... as far as I know as a child dragged to Church on Sundays... maybe the old times deserve respect... 🤷‍♀I'm not religious but 'when in Rome'...
Thanks for the interesting video - my daughter however believes in 'residual memory' and a lot of malarkey!

I love Nigel Kneale's Stone tape. They should do a remake or follow on drama.

Apparently in the middle ages women had to cover their ears as there was a belief that if they didn't they make become pregnant...well I don't know whether that continued to be a thing during the Elizabethan era but it might explain why women kept their headwear on in church! ps. It really is a beautiful church isn't it.
