How should the NHL address loopholes in the salary cap?

TSN Hockey Insiders Chris Johnston and Pierre LeBrun have the latest from the NHL GM meetings in Boca Raton, Florida where they look ahead to the playoff salary cap discussion, that is a big enough topic that it will take centre stage Tuesday. CJ and Pierre also shed light on Sheldon Kennedy's Respect Group's program in conjunction with the league, international play and more.

Cap is the cap. Period. Sucks when big stars get hurt, but that's the risk you take with massive contracts.
Creating super teams with LTIR is stupid.

Looks nice down there, would’ve been nice to invite the best analyst in hockey to come on the trip. I would get so dialled in at the beach and you all know exactly what I mean.

Why is Toronto Sports Network not talking about the Leafs?

Does TSN have an audio budget or something? Can barely hear them.

Can someone explain to me why the salary cap is removed during the playoffs in the first place? That doesn't even make sense to me

Here’s an idea, why are rival GM’s getting all salty cause teams exploit a loop hole in a dumb system to try and make their teams better? If you run a team that can’t do it, get less poor. How about punishing teams that spend far below the cap cause they use LTIR. Use the cap to force them to put together a better team and not force better teams to get worse.

I think it’s a load of shit teams can hold healthy players on the LTIR strictly to be under the cap. If your star player gets hurt, you put him on the LTIR, and you trade for a player that would normally put you over the cap then your injured player comes back in the middle of the second round then fine, whatever, he was legitimately hurt… but you shouldn’t be able to hold a healthy player on LTIR.

Get rid of the salary cap. It hasn't made it any more competitive than it used to be. Makes interesting trades near impossible all the time and sucked the life right out of the league.

I said it somewhere else, just lose the cap in theory for the season. But keep the cap as it is per game.
Let teams have a payroll for $100 or $200 million if they want for the year. But set the game cap at $1m.
You go over the game cap, lose a 7th rounder in the upcoming draft, do it again and lose a 6th, don't have a 6th, it turns into a 5th or whatever the next inline is.
You wanna dress five $10m player's for a game go ahead ($610.000), but now you gotta fill out the rest of your game roster with only $390.000, good luck with that 😂
LTIR becomes pointless to any team in this situation, cause the player's aren't dressed for a game. And it can't help a team reach the low game threshold of a capped game, Cause they're not in a game.
